I've just received the same email.
I'm a bit disappointed really. All the emails led me to be believe I was really going to get one for a while.
Just before the email cancelling, I got one advising me of a delay to my order:The original estimated Delivery Date has changed because of a delay with our suppliers - however we are working to complete your order as quickly as possible.
The NEW estimated delivery date for your Dell Order is: <changed to 28th August>0 -
Just got an another email stating the estimated delivery date will be 28th August

Have also received the much-quoted cancellation e-mail.
Just one problem here... On the day I placed the order, I received two emails from Dell: an acknowledgement, and an 'order confirmation'. If you look-up 'order confirmation' in Dell's T&Cs it says this: "Order Confirmation: written acceptance by Dell of Customer's Order;"
That would fairly strongly suggest that under contract law, they have accepted my offer and created a legally binding contract. I'm still expecting this product, or something with a simillar spec if it is not available, for the quoted price. And it would seem I have a legal case to back that up.
nb.: I'm not a lawyer. But I did spend a year studying contract law at uni.0 -

I've received the same emails. I've had order acknowledgement and separate confirmation. So at what point does it become legally binding and they have to honour it? They may state their T&Cs allow them to cancel orders for whatever reason they want, but at some point they can't and UK Law must force them to honour the order. At what point is that?0 -
Placed my order 19.50 14th August
Dell sent estimated delivery date of 21 Aug on 15th Aug.
Just received this today at 13.32:
Subject: Iomega Order Number:xxxxxxxx
Dear Customer
We are very sorry – we've had an error in our systems, and the product you thought you were ordering was wrongly described on our website. The product code and price of your order related to a completely different product, and was incorrectly linked to the description of the Iomega Hard Disc Drive you requested. In fact, this is a discontinued product and is no longer in stock.
Due to this, your Iomega Order Number: xxxxxxxx has been cancelled. Within the next 5 working days any pre-authorisation on your credit/debit card will be cancelled and we will refund to your card any money already collected.
To place your order for a different Hard Disc Drive, please go to www.dell.com or talk to your sales agent.
We are sorry for the inconvenience that this error has caused, and thank you again for choosing Dell.

worth a try, but id let it go, we've all seen mis-prices then cancellations many times before. Really isnt worth the time or hassle on the subject, they wont honour it.
To the next one!0 -
I didn't study any law at Uni but I got the email saying my order has been delayed and they are trying to arrange stock with the supplier. I have been given an expected date of 28th August now.
I assume that because I got the confirmation email they are legally bound to supply that item, or a similar one. If I don't get one now I'm going to scream and scream until I'm blue in the face, and then they'll be sorry. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
Same e-mail as Tao81 here.0

Quote from the Ts&Cs attached to the Order Confirmation mail:3.4 Dell reserves the right to make changes to ordered specifications but will identify any such changes in the Order Confirmation. Dell guarantees that any such changed Products will offer at least equivalent functionality & performance. Dell will not make any significant variations to Products or Services without Customer’s prior agreement &, except as provided for above, will manufacture & deliver Product in accordance with the Order Confirmation.
This is probably wishful reading, but does that mean if we got the confirmation mail they've got an obligation to supply something of at least equivalent spec?0 -

If you've recently received an email advising of a delay to your order, then I'm pretty sure it will be shortly followed by one cancelling it.
I accept the arguements on not pursuing the matter and that companies can cancel orders, but surely they can only do this up to a certain point, i.e. the order hasn't been acknowledged and then confirmed?
In which case, if someone has received such confirmation, like me, then it might be worth spending a little time pursuing it?0
