Just had mine banned. Reboot did nothing. Hopefully they respond to emails quickly.

Wow, really poor from mse. Not even a reply to my communication, never mind fixing the problem.

I think I will keep a daily log of how long this takes.

Day 3, off to send another email.
  • Hi rhcp

Can you try again please - you should be ok now.

Let us know if not and what message you're getting up.

    Thanks!

    Andrea :)

 This has just happened to me for the second time in a month. It took many emails and over 24 hours to get it reinstated again.

When your IP is banned you can't even see the forum so can't just read it without logging in, which is pretty draconian in itself.

To ban a genuine IP address once is unfortunate but to ban the very same IP address for a second time is unacceptable IMO. After the first error and realising that my IP address was safe and not a spammer it is ridiculous that the system could ban that IP address again.

There is clearly a serious flaw in your system somewhere that is allowing this to happen and it needs looking at and correcting as a matter of urgency. It is punishing totally innocent people
  • Hi redfox

It's an unfortunate side effect of our spam measures, which we're constantly tweaking, so could you bear with us if it happens again?

    Thanks!

Surely you can create a 'white list' of known safe addresses within this automated filter to prevent it happening to genuine users again.

Has it ever happened to any MSE staff (from any of their IP addresses - home or work etc) or are those IP addresses on a safe list? I suspect that it hasn't happened to any MSE staff so there must be a way that you are preventing that situation.

For my static IP to have been caught up in this twice means your filter thinks there is some proximity to spammers IPs - unless it's completely random in the selection of who's a baddie and who's a goodie?

If the latter then you are always going to have problems because there really is no way of identifying precisely which IP is going to spam and which isn't before the event. Seems more like a scatter gun effect than a well targeted measure to me.

I suspect it is more the case that it is triggered by some behaviour or content being posted, rather than just any similarity with a previously suspect IP. The auto IP ban is then the result, not part of the cause.
