This was done online withe TSB. I get the impression going into branch I may be able to encourage them to open an account by showing myself to be competent.0

What exactly was the message onscreen when you were declined, was it an immediate sorry you don't meet our criteria type message?
I don't think going into the branch will make any difference. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Getting a straight decline for a current account implies very serious issues, what type of account are you applying for?
Is it a basic cash account? Or one with an overdraft/additional features. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Natwest -= We made our decision using information we received from a Credit Reference search, which we carry out as part of the application process. We can’t share the details of this search with you, however, you can contact Equifax plc and they’ll be able to provide you with this information for a fee of £2 - we’ve noted their details below. You’ll need to tell them any addresses you’ve lived at for the last 6 years.0

Not immediate took several days too - guessing my applications are automatically being referred.0

Ah, this is helpful, this is not a credit decline then. It is very hard to get a credit decline for a basic bank account!!!
Not possible to know whether it's a credit or fraud refer if it was declined several days later. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
I have an appointment with Barclays shortly but have a £1,000 debt with Barclaycard from 4 - 5 years ago. May this be a problem - I am making this a highest of priority once my account situation is resolved.0

Update: Been in with Barclays said they just needed to do a fraud check, pressed some buttons, account set up account number and sort code give? I asked if it was 100% no issues etc and the person setting the account up said it was fine. I am not sure whether to expect a follow up letting closing the account or if it really is sorted and check was done there and then?0

Hmm.... this was deleted yesterday or went missing anyway...should be about post #60... make of that what you will.. it's hardly insulting or breaking any rules - but it was emailled to me which is why I can paste it (of course if this is just missing for me and visible to everyone else, let me know):

This is true - he's been here forever, even longer than me. Questionable taste in football teams and probably a user ID he regrets now though
Seems a few threads here in the last week have been pulled or edited, some links also not working... dark forces are at work chez MSE forums.

Anyone thinking jonesMUFCforever is a troll is like saying the Queen is not royalty. Yours outraged.0
