Ofcom received a number of complaints on that matter.

It appears that as a result they 'had a quiet word' with them...
  • My neighbour is with TT and I have recommended using 18185 for her calls.I know that Plusnet allow them but can anyone tell me whether TT allows their use. I think her line rental is with TT.Thanks

You cant use 18185 indirectly or any other short code, they have been blocked for yonks.

You can use the Freephone 0808 Access Number which has a different set of rates see: http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php
But you want be able to benefit from just 5p a call to 01/02/03 numbers.

Check whether an anytime inclusive call plan for calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers will be cheaper in the long run. Once you have this, you incur no further costs for these calls (as long as each call is less than 60 minutes long). TalkTalk also has deals with inclusive calls to mobile numbers starting 071-075 and 077-079.

    Hi Diamond Dave

As ypaymore has correctly state short codes don't work on TalkTalk lines. To give it some context these are CPS (carrier pre select) services, where the code allows the call to route over a different carrier. These work with BT wholesale lines.

They dont work on a TalkTalk line as the technology in the exchange is different (as it uses our own LLU equipment), with the calls routing via our network & carriers, not BT Wholesales.

    Cheers

Indirect Access is the means by which you can dial a short code on a traditional phone line if its not barred followed by the number you want, and the call will be rerouted to the network owning the code rather than completed by the line supplier.

Carrier Pre-Select achieved the same end but without the need for a code.

On the topic of CPS, I don't think there are any Carrier Pre-Select services still running... or are there?
  • Just found out that 18185 has just increased its charges to 1/2 p per minute. No notice at all. Pretty shabby, not being informed.

Their prices change pretty frequently, I'm not sure I'd expect to be informed every time. If you're talking about calls to UK fixed lines, then 18866 appears (at time of writing) to still be 0.0p/min.

Apart, that is, from telling you the cost of the call before you are connected.
