Mattel has recalled millions of toys

  • My DD has a huge tub full of Polly Pocket - it is all mixed up - is it worth sending the whole lot back do you think?

How old and/or stupid is she? Is she likely to look at a loose magnet and say "that looks delicious, I think I'll nosh it - nice, I'll have another one". The toys are not supposed to be for younger than four years, so she most probably would not do anything silly. After all, if she was not too bright, she would already have eaten her way through a couple of small shoes and other PP accessories, all of which are small enough to fit inr ears and noses.

As Deanos has pointed out, the real danger is to younger ones who might just find the bits lying around and, as babies do, put it in their mouths, etc. If your daughter is over three, surely she would be OK?

The real problem though is the idiots that will sue the company for £1 million because their kid ate a magnet! The company has to do a recall to save themselves then if a child eats it because the parent did not send it back they can't be liable. Compensation Culture is the thing to blame.

I think it is all down to common sense and if you have young children wise to get it out of the way. DD has some PP bu I am not going to fish it out. However, my 3 year son put a bead up his nose the other day - luckily I was able to get him to blow it out but I guess that will be the last time he does that!!

Of course, it's always an excuse to get some new toys out of Mattel I suppose. Put them away for Xmas - the kids are probably bored of playing with them since last Xmas now anyway - how MSE is that!! Free toys from Santa!! LOL.

Just remembered I sold some miniatures on ebay a few months ago and they contained lead. Wonder if it was legal for me to sell them?

    .

Well if they made the toys correctly it wouldnt be a problem in the first place, you cant watch your kids all the time, it only takes a second for something to happen.

Maybe the Compensation Culture is a good thing in this case, otherwise Matell could brush it under the carpet and a kid could get killed.

Has any kid ever been killed sucking on some paint with lead in it?

Despite being from the evil empire, I'm sure mattel are a proper company.
    The money, Dave...

Well you are responsible actually. You werent to know though. Its not entirely your fault if some kiddie ends up sucking on toys containing lead and poisoning them BUT what does your conscience say?

Im not on about lead im on about the magnets falling out, and yes 3 kids have been put in hospital because of it and 1 needed surgery to get them out.
  • ok - i tried to call for two whole days now and the one time it actually rang i was on hold for 30 mins and still no-one picked up so i gave up...
my daughter also has a box full of all her PP stuff so what do i do?? i cant go through every bit and think, well that came with the hotel, and that came with the bus honestly... id be there all week and still have no clue

i wouldn't normally bother either as my daughter is 6 and has never been silly enough to put things in her mouth or elsewhere but my little boy is 9 months and puts EVERYTHING he can fit in his mouth. she does play with them in her room only (i like my house toy free lol) but to not let oakley in her room again ever is just madness, so is it worth sending them back??

also i am not happy to get a bunch of tat to replace it - my friend sent hers back and got a load of dogs and barbies back... i paid for PP i want PP or a refund surely you are entitled to that?? after all the goods are faulty and my daughter doesn't play with barbie. i will even happily take vouchers so when the stocks come back in i can get her the stuff again

    what do you think??

    thanks
