    Hi all,

I've just went to switch to the Origin Broadband deal but I've been faced with three options when it comes to which router I want.
I was going with Origin for the price of paying up front and don't want to have to pay £90 - £125 for a router if I don't need to.

The kids use the wifi for youtube on their mobiles, internet on the desktop computer. We use it mainly for downloading tv via sky and catchup services.

Is the free router going to be capable of this or do I need to look elsewhere?

    Paul

    Good Morning Paul,

I am just looking through older posts to answer any queries that customers may of had.

I note that you were thinking of changing supplier to us, Is something that you did?

If it is could I kindly ask how you are finding the service?

If not, I do wish you well with your new provider.

    Kind Regards,

    Origin Broadband

I've also been having reliability problems recently - it's getting very frustrating.

Also, the router I was sent (the most basic model, can't remember the number) has some sort of ASUS firmware made for Origin, as it has their name in the firmware version. The option to upgrade to a different firmware seems to have been removed.

Does it still have the advanced options like QoS that youtube videos show it having, vpn etc.?

I just wondered about something very odd. I never got as far as unpacking the modem router you sent me, and I am connected perfectly well using the previous BB supplier's modem, using their logon details, ie user ID and password. Does that mean you don't check the modem's logon details at all?
Seems likely your old provider hasn't yet removed your old PPP username/password. Certainly an @origin.net PPP username/pass was required for it to work for me.

I think you are spot on with that. I have updated the username/password and I am now connected again. The DNS and gateway have changed, so I assume the new ones are the Origin ones. (Origin seem to be using Google's DNS as the IP is 8.8.8.8.)

So, apparently it was an oversight at my old ISP.

ORGIN BROADBAND. MONEYSAVINGEXPERT should not be endorsing this broadband company. Martin lewis shame on you.. Have been with moneysavingexpert for quite a few years but have never seen such bad reporters about a company.
Went via MONEYSAVINGEXPERT link to this company signed up and paid £154.99 for one years subscription to broadband in advance on 2August17 this month. Rang three days later to see how my order was progressing ,..sat on the phone for 58 minutes no reply ,so I went onto internet and found trustpoilot reviews ,to my horror after 8 pages of reviews I'd had enough so I rang up spent another 45 minutes waiting for the phone to be answered and told them I would not be going with there company and to cancel my order. (Under the 14 day rule )And please verify my cancellation to me by email and refund my £154.99 .The man in cancellation verified he would email me. straight away I'm still waiting for his email . I have sent them another email asking for a full refund.I am waiting for there reply .watch this space. 09/08/2017Still no emails so I went too my bank and made a (CHARGEBACK CLAIM) see MONEYSAVINGEXPERT under chargeback for (debate card payments ) Hopefully thay will be able to get my money back. If not it will be the country Court....On a better note I've got a great deal with sky broadband and phone line for £ 9.50 per month for one year via MONEYSAVINGEXPERT Webb site available till 18/08/2017 .£ 20 upfront cost.....12/08/2017. MONEYSAVINGEXPERT forum ORIGIN BROADBAND REVIEWS You have all my details you know who I am you have my email address and phone number and you also have my money £154.99. and you refuse to email me as regards to my cancellation request I am a 70 year old pensioner and I'm not going to let you steal my money ,I have all the time in the world to write off to broadband forums and I won't be stopping there under the 14 day rule I have the right to cancel this contract.under the Consumers rights act 2015 ( part 1)chapter (1)(9) witch you well know . With no reason whatsoever , when you send me my money I will stop writing to forums I have copies of emails I sent you to backup my cancellation request, I have just noticed on the MONEYSAVINGEXPERT WEBSITE YOUR NOT ON THERE ??? Origin Broadbband have now denied my £35 Top Cashback payment for a second time, despite paying for the whole year upfront! First time time the transaction simply declined. Now they say the claim cannot be related to a transaction.

Back when it was originally declined, I emailed the address given by the rep on here. Guess what? I received no reply.

30 and a half minutes on hold.....

Broadband has been off in Bristol since 0940. 6 outages since 26th July. Openreach signal/phone line is working fine. It's their actual "supply" that keeps breaking down.

You failed to access to the web page that you want to view.
    Reason for failed connection :
There is no response from the remote server.

I feel a chat with the credit card company coming up.

STOP PRESS- after 35 minutes they just got answered. Nice "eee-by-gum" lady. Acknowledged at their end lies the problem- bad weather or kids breaking in somewhere and disturbing their servers !!! They don't know it's gone down until there's a huge surge of calls but they're looking into the problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH !!!!

I went through Quidco, but given that I only paid £125 for the year, I wasn't really expecting to get £35 cashback. I've made a claim, but I'm not going to complain if it gets turned down.

35.00 Cashback listing has been changed within last few months to state monthly payments only for cashback which suggests Origin always intended to renage on 12 Months paid up front transactions

    https://www.topcashback.co.uk/origin-broadband/

Quidco state " all other sales"

To be fair to Origin, they are not responsible if Quidco have possibly stated 'all other sales' when what Origin meant was 'all other monthly sales'.

Getting a year's BB + phone for a net £90 is clearly too good to be true.
