I would be very careful about paying upfront for anything with Origin. To be honest, I'm surprised they're still trading.

Following the suggetion on this site i signed up to Origin for one year in advance.

tldr; do i have to pay fees if they took money 3 weeks ago but only provided internet 3 days ago

I paid and it took them 3 weeks to get BT to come out for the line.
It was installed friday morning but i didnt actually get to use it until Saturday night due to work.

It was so slow it was worse than dial up. Ive a smart tv and after about 3/4 of an hour we gave up and ran the tv off a mobile phone (which worked better (though still buffered a bit)).

I tried phoning on Sunday but they basically do not bother answering the phone lines to anything but the 'new customers/sign ups'.
They literally answer new sign ups within 30 seconds everytime.
Anyway eventually tech person said they need to test the line so have to wait 24 hours.

..... trying to get through to tech or customer support tonight ... and they arent answering anything but 'new sign ups' again (another 40 minutes wasted tonight) to just find out the results of the test with no luck again

    That was the final straw.

Phoned up the 'new customers' line and told them to cancel.

The short version of the conversation is its now cancelled but they are going to stick with me with a leaving fee.

Can they hit me with a leaving fees?! Ive only had their poxy internet live for 3 days (of which its been unusable during that time).
I asked during sign up and Dan the chap setting it up did say the actual 12 month contract goes live from when the actual internet goes live and shouldnt distance buying regulations apply as i only got the net off them Friday morning.

    Thanks in advance.
    Mike

  • Hi everyone

We include recommendations based on price so Origin is included in our Cheap Broadband guide but we say feedback is mixed: Origin Broadband

We're going to try to get Origin on here to answer your questions.
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

just wanted to let others know before ringing up that origin broadband are having problems. i had slow broad band over the weekend, okay now, but unable to access different web sites, not able to initialise speed check etc.finally got through to someone on the phone to be told that they are having problems, that 58 people had called in the last 5 minutes, and that they didn't know when things were going to be fixed.
I suggested that if the service status on their page had said they were having problems then i wouldn't have rung in.
there has been no info on their twitter or facebook accounts either.
she put in her postcode and it said everything normal for her area when it wasn't. said she would get onto the web team.
still says all normal on their service status, when clearly not.there also seems to be problems with yahoo mail, unable to use it since friday, whether this is origins problem i do not know.
  • Please do Andrea, signed up for a year and their rubbish. Crap customer service, slow speed ( the router they send for the standard broadband has the old wifi 802.11n instead of the latest 802.11ac wifi.)

I didnt see this advertised before I signed up so can I complain about this and leave free of charge?
It just said 'powerful all in one hub' when really its an old fashioned router which will never cope with today's wireless devices.
Please get Oliver Bryssau on here, emailed him four times with no reply.
Origin are a shockingly bad company.
  • I'd like to ask Origin where my money is! I signed up 4th Jan but called to cancel the next day after reading horror stories all over the web. I noticed my money wasn't refunded 2 weeks later so I called and was told there had been some kind of error and my money would definitely be in my bank within 48 hours so I stupidly assumed it would be, forgot about it and just thought to check today. Nope! Going to have to call again to ask for my refund for a third time... definitely put me off having any dealings with them in the future if they can't even get something simple as this right.

I wish I'd read the reviews before signing up:

First email from Origin said I would have to be at home for my new phone line to be installed - I hadn't ordered a new line, only broadband.

The router was (not) delivered by Parcelforce - I received it 19 days after the first - and only - delivery attempt.

I forgot to login to the portal within 72 hours, have now asked twice for new login details - still waiting.

Internet kept dropping out. Waited 30 minutes on hold, then spoke for 20 minutes to someone with zero tech knowledge who kept putting me back on hold while asking a colleague for advice. The speed test now shows speed of less than 3Mb.

    :-(
