Origin Broadband - any good

Neither.
It works out at £28 per month for the package quoted in my post. (38Mb unlimited fibre, line rental, anytime calls and CLI). That is fixed for 18 months, so I have no worries about any price increases over that period.
At the time that was not a bad deal at all, bearing in mind that I'm on a Market 1 exchange with no LLU choices.
As I said, I have had no issues whatsoever with them so far.
Time will tell, but paying by credit card should give me any necessary protection.
That SHOULD have rung alarm bells0 -
I am not querying the price but the fact that they expect an upfront 18 months payment !!
That SHOULD have rung alarm bells
Not really. A number of ISPs offer a reduction for upfront annual payment.
At the time (September) there were no bad reviews out there.
However, I did pay by credit card, just in case!0 -
As this thread is entitled Origin Broadband - Any Good?, I thought that I'd just add a bit of balance to the negative reviews.
I signed up in October last year for 18 months in advance 38Mb fibre, line, anytime calls and caller identity - yes £520, but paid by credit card just in case.
The changeover from Plusnet was seamless overnight. I have found the service to be more stable than Plusnet with a much faster upload and absolutely no loss of service. I get 17Mb, which is all that our long line will support.
I use their online portal to look at my bill, which appears to be accurate.
So I'm one happy customer. Looking at the posts on here, I realise that things seem to have gone downhill since October but, perhaps fortunately, I've not had to contact them recently.
Just my personal two pennyworth.

I just logged in again now and, for the first time (12 days after they took money by direct debit), 3 bills are showing in my Origin account. I'm not that impressed in that
a) two of the bills are dated one day apart from each other, cover the same billing period, and have conflicting charge information.
b) one of the bills shows almost £10 of call charges, there is a linking button saying "View Call List", but when I click on that an error message appears saying there is no call history to show... so they are happy to charge me for calls but cannot itemise what calls were made.
c) there has been no acknowledgement of my complaint or communication of any kind - I just thought I'd try logging in again and found these bills had appeared.
Having said that, I think I can kind of piece together the information and it looks like the charge to my bank account is probably fair.
My ADSL broadband and phone line continue to work well, download and upload speeds are the same as they were with plusnet before the switch.
So, I'm feeling better about Origin now there is more info available in my account - but still not happy about the poor communication and confusing and sloppy billing so far.
Fingers crossed that this is a teething issue for a newish company/new online portal, and that things will improve from here...
Thanks for all the previous responses.

Further to this post I came across their Facebook page, and since posting on there about my issues they have refunded the money they took from my account.
I still cannot login to the customer portal though, and the connection drops so often it has become a nuisance.
Needless to say i will terminate this contract with them at the earliest possible time that I can.
It is often true what they say, we get what we pay for!
Their Facebook page is easily found. Openly posting on it got me a partial result. Alas i am not permitted to post links as a new user here.

Switchover day was today. There was no cut to the phone line but I was without broadband from 7am as my router was not delivered until 2pm. However I am up and running okay now which I am very relieved about.
I did contact Origin on Wednesday evening (only 6 minutes on hold) to see when my router would arrive as I had originally been told by Wednesday. I was told it would arrive Thursday or today. I think it would have been better to have received the router a few days before switchover as service would then have not been interrupted at all.
I have tested the speed and will do so each week:
Download speed - 29.26
Upload speed - 9.60
I felt that a bit more correspondence would have been useful and I am hoping that I receive an email soon to set up an online account.
Still, for my first ever switch away from BT I am happy so far.

It really isn't fair on the punters to say that you have had mixed reviews about Origin. I signed up on your recommendation when you said that you hadn't had enough reviews to rate them.
I rate them thus: Speed 1.6 Mbs at most, which is about half that delivered by my previous supplier. Service: there isn't any. Phones go on ringing, e-mails are unanswered and they seem to have cut their online chat.
Look them up on the broadband.co.uk review site (sorry, not allowed to post a URL it seems). Not good, is it?
I can't wait for the contract to run out. In fact I might cut my losses well before that, because with all the speed degradations my broadband is near useless. I will sue them for the money in the County Court and they are so incompetent that they will probably fail to turn up.
And is that BRIAN BLESSED who answers their phones? Does he know what a shower of s##t he is mixed up with?
Hi,
