Every 2 years UK Schools are off for the week after Easter and the Continentals are back to school/work. This is normally the cheapest and quietest week to visit Disney. We went on 8th April this year.

We've been every 2 years on this rough date for the last 4 visits. We've had weather ranging from hot sunshine to snow.

But the biggest difference are the queues. We stayed on Pirates for 7 goes before we had to get off! We did so much in the magic 2 hour window for Disney hotel guests that we knackered ourselves out and actively turned down rides with queues of longer than 15 minutes because we were too tired to stand!

That's the date we went earlier in the year. We got annual passes so wanted to take advantage before they expire next year, preferably before it got too cold. No point in going in Oct if we won't get on anything though.

  • Hi folks, I just wondered if anyone could give me an idea about whether or not those is a good deal? I've been quoted £812 for a 4 night/3 day stay at the Cheyenne hotel, that's for 2 adult and 2 children in August next year. The price includes park tickets. I'm not sure if it's going to be a whole lot cheaper getting a hotel nearby and park tickets separately. As we need to go in school holdays it's never going to be cheap! Just wondered if it would be better to stay in the Disney hotel for that price? Cheers!
  • Travelling to Disney on 9th feb, week before English school holidays. I've read it's necessary to reserve seats for breakfast on site, etc... Is this the case all year round? Also can anyone tell me the most reliable way to get from Disneyland to CDG airport? There will be 2ad and 2ch. Is a taxi viable?

    Hi

Has anyone actually visited while the french schools have been off too? What was it like? We were wanting to visit in the October half term but are now worried it will be too busy. Thanks :)

Honestly? if your oct half term is the week which includes 31st oct, avoid dlp. not only are all french schools on holiday then, but most other european countries are too.
  • Just thought I'd pop back in here to say a huge "Thank you Balletshoes!" :D

Thanks to all of your help we had a fantastic week in Disneyland, with everything running smoothly (except our niece's annual pass, we forgot to take the parental permission proof, but after a few phone calls and emails everything was sorted).

Just one question - What's the best time of year to go back for it being quiet?

    I second this!

We always find that Wednesday afternoons are busier though, but I think I read that French schools only do Wednesday morning and not the full day. The car park is very different on Wednesday evening - OH likes to park nowhere near anyone else but we are always surrounded by french cars on our return to the car. Only on Wednesdays though, but can't remember where I read about french schooling on Wednesdays.

Edit: I've used the word 'busier' but not in any way comparable to weekends for instance.

We're home! A massive thank you to Balletshoes and everyone else that answered our questions. We had a ball!

We stayed at Davy Crockett, and this is what we found..... Thought we'd post a few tips for others staying there!

    * Book a premium plus 'bungalow' (caravan!) if you can. Ours was LOVELY! Comfy, with good, if basic, facilities. Kitchen was good, water was piping hot, showers were nice and everything was spotless. You get free internet too, via cable. There's a nice deck outside with a picnic bench, it was lovely sitting out there in the evening.

    * Take a cheap toaster - we bought one for 4 quid from Asda. There's a hob but no oven or grill. We took a bag with washing up liquid, tea towels, sponges, etc. too. You get a 'cleaning kit' but it's tiny!

    * There's a supermarket about 15 minutes up the road - we spent 50 euros on day one and got enough for all our meals (we only had lunch at the park). We brought stuff back with us too. More than enough for 4 adults. It was nice to come home and eat something off a plate which was reasonably healthy after ice creams and chips during the day!!! The staff at reception will give you a map and are happy to give you directions.

    * The 'all you can eat BBQ' at Davy is LOVELY and well worth the 22 euros each (cheaper for kids). Loads of salads, veg, pasta, meatballs, and a really good variety of puds!

    * Meeting characters in the park is MANIC and high maintenance. We had 3-4 characters in the evening at Davy Crockett - no queue, no jostling, lovely!

    * 'Extra Magic Hours' are good - but only if there's stuff you want to go on. You'll get given a list, so check it before you go. Not everything is open, and they don't open the 'lands' til 10.

    * The parade is lovely! Find good spot early though, at least half an hour before. Prepare to be jostled! Same for Disney Dreams - that gets REALLY busy. Worth the long wait though.

    * There's drinking fountains all round so take empty bottles.

    * MacDonalds in Disney Village was the most crowded place in the whole world! We gave up after an hour and ate at the Sports Bar instead - hot dog and fries was 9 euros and it was a really good sized portion. There's other stuff around that price too. Caf! Mickey was fully booked all week, so book before you go if that's on your itinerary!

We resisted the urge to buy loads of Disney stuff and only spent HALF of what we went with. With petrol, food (including a meal in rainforest caf! which was 100 euro), a couple of souvenirs - including a photo with Mr. Mouse - we spent 500 euro. We actually could have done better than that, but had to buy a meal on the way home unexpectedly (long story), and I treated us all to a pack of cards (TEN BL00DY EUROS!!) and a couple of other bits. If you budget well it's very affordable. It was all massively expensive, but not necessary expense if you know what I mean!

All in all, a big success. Now to process the 500 odd photos that I took!!!

How the bubbles did you get the internet connection working?

I made two calls to reception, did as told and still no luck (expected this due to reviews read on TripAd.....). [unsure if I can post the site, but you get the idea].

Premium cabins are the same but without internet, nespresso, hairdryer and bathrobes. Personally, I didn't think the few extras in a Premium Plus were worth it (could be tempted to stay in one again if they change to wi-fi so multiple ipads could be used at once) but glad you liked DCR - we love it.

There was a connection thing on the telly. You had to click on a picture using the remote control and it gave you your username and password.
Ah, I didn't realise the other cabins were essentially the same. From reading Trip Advisor I thought you didn't get the decking outside unless it was a premium plus one. Mrs. B did enjoy the nespresso though, a shot in the mornings and she had bags of energy!!!

We really loved it there. If we were to go back we'd book there again without a doubt. We found reception to be pretty helpful, we had an incident with a stray kitten - very long, but hilarious story - and they sent someone round within 5 minutes. Our internet wasn't working when we got there but they sorted it really quickly.

The thing we liked best though was the feeling that you were away from all the madness of the park when you got home. Nice to put our feet up after walking and queuing!
