How strict are they on the under-3 cut-off at the park gates?
SIL is planning a trip. Her son is just under 3, but he's very big for his age. Will they keep getting stopped at the gate and asked about it? She's a bit worried about this as she doesn't speak French.
Will he get his own ticket (which would help, presumably, as I'm guessing that they'd have already checked his age at the Ranch) or do infants just go through with their parents?
  • A couple of questions about dining and meal plans, if you don't mind. We went this year with no meal plan and found food to be incredibly expensive. We paid to upgrade to breakfast at Cafe Mickey once, and would like to do a meal there again. Didn't do the princess lunch as it would have been £100ish just for DD and I.

The "Plus" and "Premium" plans mention eating at Cafe Mickey, and the "Premium" the Auberge de Cendrillion and Bill's Wild West show. How does that work? If it's £140 to do lunch at the Auberge, £42 supplement for the Cafe Mickey breakfast, then £460 for food for the 3 of us for the week (Premium half board) sounds like a bargain!

under-3s don't get a park ticket, they go in with the adults. If she's worried about being challenged about his age, get her to photocopy his birth certificate, or the photo page in his passport, and carry that with her.

    Fair enough.

I think it's the idea of being questioned about it by someone in French that's worrying her!

You can add Auberge (and Cafe Mickey if you like, its not a premium rate restaurant) to your Disney package, and therefore have them paid for. It would be £54 for an adult and £30 for a child for the Auberge, and £30 for an adult and £17 for a child at Cafe Mickey (lunch or dinner only, none of the half board plan vouchers cover breakfast at Cafe Mickey). It also doesn't need to cost anywhere near £77 for 3 of you to have lunch or dinner at Cafe Mickey if you just pick what you want from the a la carte menu (the set menu you pay for in advance/with half board vouchers is for 3 courses from a restricted menu).

Buffalo Bills (if you're thinking of doing that) can be done much cheaper than the premium half board price - the French DLP site and ticketnet.fr sell Buffalo Bills tickets for aroun 45 euros each.

I don't know how many nights you are thinking of for your trip (is it 4?), half board gives you one voucher each per night booked in your hotel (as long as your DD will be aged 3 or over when you arrive).

Personally, I don't think any of the meal plans are worth it at DLP, they are restrictive and they don't really save you money (especially if you are mixing and matching the restaurants ie some on the plus and some on the premium).

Yes, food is expensive in the DLP bubble ;).

as soon as they realise she is British, they will speak to her in English :).

Thank you. Yes, 4 nights, and DD will be 4.

Sorry, I still don't get it WRT the Auberge and Wild West. What is actually included in the premium meal plan for these?

So how much does it cost to eat at, say, Plaza Gardens buffet or Davy Crockett if you don't have a meal plan?

[Sorry, notaneuser, for jumping on your question!]

    No problem whatsoever.

Our hotel buffet was something like £23 each for adults and £15 for over 3s?

on the Premium plan, both Buffalo Bills and Auberge are covered completely in the price of the Premium voucher (so for 2 adults and one child in both those restaurants, you're paying £120 for your meals there, on the premium plan).

If you go with the plus plan, you would be using the euro cash value of the vouchers (pre-set by DLP twice a year depending on the currency exchange rate at the time) towards the full on-the-day price of the meal in the Premium restaurants - so for your family you'd have £69 worth of vouchers to use, against the full cost of both the Auberge and Buffalo Bills.
But if you're going to use vouchers at cash value, you might as well just pay cash (especially since you can prepay for these 2 premium restaurants and get a reduction in the full price anyway).
