  • I posted a few weeks ago about being overweight and fitting on rides.....pleased to report everything was fine and feel stupid for worrying about it!! Didn't go on orbitron. Looked narrow!! Made the husband do that one with the kids!!

Orbitron was narrow - I didn't go on, but the very skinny adult who went on with my chunky child said he felt squashed.

It looks really pretty in the dark though, so you have an excuse to stay on the ground and take photos :)

It's almost time for our holiday, can't wait :j I have a few questions if anyone can help; I have tried to search where possible but am now running out of time, lol.

We are staying at the Sequoia and have the free half board meal plan included which I understand is the "plus" option. It says we have a choice of 19 buffet and table service restaurants but I wondered firstly where can I find the list of these and also if anyone has any recommendations of which of these restaurants are the best or most suitable for 2 adults and 2 kids (age 5 and 7) and definitely the ones that get booked up early!

I understand these include Cafe Mickey and wondered if lunch or dinner is the better option here..? We will need to use the HB for our lunch one day because we have tickets to BBWWS :)

I also see in the brochure about a Pause Gourmande (teatime treat) which I think is part of their new meal plan so does that mean we each get a free drink and sweet treat in the counter service restaurants in the Park each day... ? Being dumb here, sorry, but can someone name some of the counter service restaurants...?

Also, due to the parades etc, is there a BEST time to eat (evening meal) so you don't clash with the timings of these?

Am I right in thinking there are NO kettles in the room but you can ask for one for a deposit?

Sorry I've not been for 14 years and then had no kids and was very relaxed but now having read this great thread I realise it's all plan, plan, and book in advance, lol!

    Thanks so much!

get to your local travel agent and pick up a glossy DLP brochure - its the easiest way to find all the half board information, its all there in 2 pages near the back of the brochure :).

i think lunch is better, with the ages of your children especially.

when you get your pause gourmande vouchers, the full list where they can be used is printed on them.

the best time to eat at DLP is outwith normal mealtimes generally, especially at counter service restaurants. You can download/print off the current park programme from the DLP site, the timings will be the same now until the end of June for the parades etc.

yes - just ask at your hotel reception. At the Sequoia Lodge you shouldn't be asked for any deposit nowadays.

Your own hotel dinner buffet is very good, so I'd give that a go with your half board plus voucher. I'd also suggest the Parkside Diner dinner buffet at the Hotel New York. I wouldn't go for any of the park buffet restaurants as they are lesser-standard rated than the value of your half board vouchers. Walts is lovely, but quite grown-up. Blue Lagoon is fabulous for its location (its inside the ride of Pirates of the Caribbean) but you might want to check the menu first before booking there, as its a Carribean-themed restaurant.

Balletshoes you are a star! I have the brochure but was busy looking at the summer meal plan pages that are relevant for us and didn't notice the restaurants on the Winter meal plan pages, doh! Do you know if it's the same restaurants still; what exactly has changed with the new meal plan..anything or not much?!

Thanks for pointing out the Park buffets are a lesser value, that's good to know. So in the Park we could do a table service but that's from the set menu to be free, or the voucher's classed as a cash value off their regular menu.. is that right?

The brochure talks about buffet "in your Disney Hotel" - can I double-check with the summer plan we can eat in say HNY's buffet restaurant and use the voucher?

    Thanks again!

yes the list of restaurants is the same for both winter and summer meal plan - there have been a couple of changes to the standard plan for summer, but that doesn't affect you.

you have half board plus, not half board hotel (this is the brand new plan from summer) so you can use your half board plus vouchers in any participating park, hotel, or Village restaurant, including the HNY :).

Thanks Balletshoes, I understand now re. the other disney hotel restaurants, I got confused originally as it lists the restaurants by their name, rather than 'HNY' Parkside Diner so I wasn't realising it was the names of the restaurants within the various Disney Hotels...

Final question on the subject; in the "Things to know before you go" leaflet in Meal Plan section it has a "tick" against the all you can eat buffet in the Parkside Diner for a "Plus" meal plan and the legend says a tick means "restaurants where you can use your half board voucher or the full board meal voucher and save up to 15%"... so does that mean I would have to pay extra to eat there and that the voucher value isn't enough on it's own to cover the full cost? It is only the premium that has a 'circle' which means you can use your voucher without supplement..

I'm sure it will all make more sense once we are there but I ideally would like to make some reservations before we go.

    Thank you!

that "save up to 15%" is totally irrelevant to you, as you didn't pay for your vouchers in the first place :). The Parkside Diner at the HNY always has been, and still is, paid in full with a half board plus voucher.

Thanks again Balletshoes, you've been such a great help. I've made reservations at Cafe Mickey, Walt and Hunters Grill :) Just can't wait to get there now!
  • Hi, im looking to visit DLP somewhere around 20-23rd October 2014. I was looking for some advice as to what was the best deal. currently (until tonight) Newport bay is £885 for 3 nights, inc HB and tickets for 1 adult and 3 kids (4,15,17). flights are working out around £350.
However i can get a deal on expedia staying at explorers hotel for around £700 which includes flights but no tickets or HB.
I'm torn between the two and am not sure what is the cheapest deal?
Do you think there will be any better deals coming up?
Thank you for any advice or help you can give, it is really appreciated

so its £1235 for the Newport Bay including flights, hotel, park tickets, breakfast, and half board plus.

Offsite with Expedia you're £700 but need to add park tickets (which will be at around £130 each for your dates, might be even more) and the half board value of the onsite deal is around £90 per night (so £270 for that).
    So, offsite you're looking at £700 plus £270 plus £500 (park tickets) = £1470

For you, the onsite deal is much better at those prices. Are any of the other onsite deals cheaper for your dates?
