Thanks. That's very helpful. What sort of deal do you think we should aim for for the hotel/tickets?

for ballpark figures I really don't know, I've not considered a trip at that time of year.

But a typical discount on full brochure price on a 2 or 3 night onsite stay would be around 30%, possibly a bit more if you're lucky :). Kids aged under 7 are always free (including park tickets) if you book an onsite package.
  • Thought I'd post an update on my trouble booking Disneyland park tickets.

Since my last post, I have contacted guest care. They explained that they haven't got my money, it's blocked and can't be claimed and refunded because the transactions were unsuccessful.

I have since replied, pointing out that the reason the transactions were unsuccessful due to a technical problem that was mentioned in one of their previous emails.

I am still £616 down, with no tickets booked, and with no clear idea how or when I will get the money back. They have offered no apologies or form of compensation and I will now find myself with a huge telephone bill in the new year (I don't have a landline phone) and potential overdraft charges.

Could anybody help with how I proceed? Do I contact trading standards or the CAB?

Has the payment actually been taken? That is, is it showing on your statement, or is it just affecting your available balance?

What you may find is that it's just sitting as pending just now, and that it will not actually debit the account, but instead just 'drop off' after a 4 to 5 days. I find that this happens quite a lot with failed transactions.

I appreciate that this may not help you in the short term, particularly if it's a debit card, but I wouldn't get worried about this until the transactions show on your statement.

    I hope this helps.

  • Thanks for the reply mrmajika. It isn't showing on my statement so I guess it is just pending.

Do you think I have a right to charge them for the minutes I've spent on the phone to them and my bank? After all, this whole situation was caused by a technical problem with their website.

You could try, but you might find you spend even more on phone calls trying to achieve this.

I suppose you could fire off an email to them explaining the mess. I think you'd be relying on a good will gesture, rather than any legal or statutory right to compensation.

    Hiya,

We are looking to take our 2 dd's (aged 13 and 6) to dlp for our first time next year. We need to go during our school hols and nearly booked a few days ago to go for 3 nights 23th-26th feb. Luckily I found this thread before I did as on reading it, I found out that the french children are also off at that time :(. As it's our first visit we really want to make the most of our time at dlp and so hope to avoid massive queues everywhere.

I then started looking at the easter holidays, maybe the 13th or 14th, and for 4 nights so that we benefit from the 2 free days offer (would rather 3 nights but 4 works out cheaper), but the french children are off then too? I looked on a french schools website and it says that zone c schools are off. Will this have a big effect on the amount of people in the park?

    heres the link http://www.education.gouv.fr/pid25058/le-calendrier-scolaire.html?annee=108&zone=0&search_input=%A0D%E9partement%2C+Code+postal+ou+ville

I've promised my children this holiday now, so we have to go. I know my eldest is classed as an adult and we have set our mind on the new york hotel and travelling on the eurostar, everything else is up in the air.

When do you think the best time to go will be? it has to be between 22nd-29th feb or 12th-26th april.

Many thanks in advance and Merry Christmas :j

See the post from balletshoes - post10430 which should answer your question! In summary, when the French children are off it will be busier!

Thank you for your response ap156, I think you misunderstood my question though. I know that it will be busier when the french schools are off, my question is more about damage control more than complete avoidance, as I have committed to going before the summer and can only go during the UK school holidays, I may have no other option than to go when the french schools are off.

Sorry, I wrote my last comment late in the night when I was really busy and my brain was fried, so maybe I was not clear in what I was asking :rotfl: My question was about the french school zones and if there will be less people in dlp when certain zones are off.

For example, if we go on the 23rd feb we will be at dlp at the same time as the zone b schools, but if we go on 12-13th april we will be there at the same time as the zone c schools, but the zone b schools do not break up until the 19th, therefore we will be home before their school holidays start.

I was hoping that maybe someone on here, namely the super helpful Balletshoes :D may have experienced the park at times when only certain zones were off and may have been able to advise me on when the "better of the 2 evils" is :)

Does anyone have any advice on when the best time to go would be please?

    TIA xx:)

Sorry I didn't misunderstand the question, just was trying to help you with the question, the information you require is in the link kindly posted by balletshoes in the afore mentioned post! If you look, you will find that Paris is listed in zone c which would suggest to me that that is the time to avoid due to the proximity to the park and also due to the Francilien day tickets and annual pass.

Yes thank you, only noticed that paris was in zone c after my last post. Just came on to correct myself but you beat me to it lol :rotfl:. I've been having a good look at everything this morning and thought that 13th april would be my best bet as only zone c are off (b and c are off the following week). Priced everything up for that date, but then I noticed that zone c includes paris, so I've been put back to square one . I'm stumped now, don't know what to do :(. Typical that the one year that I can go to dlp is the year that their school hols clash with ours :wall:
