ok guys im in a bit of a dilemma here, basically both me and dh are peed off with work situations, mine i got a payrise earlier on in the week, im now on the grand total of 5.50 an hour as apposed to the minimum wage before. i work in the evenings and at weekends so my oh is at home to look after ds. oh works also for min. wage, and does an average 40 hr week 9 to 5 in a wharehouse. my dilemma is that both of us are unhappy in our current jobs, and ive just heard about a nights shift job, oh prefers working nights and its better pay, trouble is i wouldnt be able to keep my job which im not too bothered about as its rubbish - im under too much stress n too much responsibility for the wage im on. im thinking i want a job where i can work school hours so can be at home when ds is on school hols etc, but its really hard to get your foot in the door, i applied for a teaching assistant job n got turned down
sorry for the long post just a bit up in arms here! any advice appreciatedLBM 29/07/ 07

mm, have you thought about a little job in a shop or something? there will be all sorts of jobs coming up soon with christmas just around the corner and most of them are willing to keep staf on permenant.
me and oh were in a similar poistion a few years back, as he worked 8-4.30 ish mon-fri and i worked 5-9 at matalan mon-fri and all day sat/sun! so we really did not have any family time at all. we literally crossed on the door stop all week. it wasnt ideal but at the time it was the only option we had-so we had to do it. i only started working in the day a year or so ago when my dad retired and was able to have the kids while me and oh were at work. so i got a little p/t office job.
i think you should try keeping your eyes peeled for something like that. ???
have you thought about the difference in wages with oh looking at night shifts? only they usually pay alot better then min wage cos of the hours-so he might be able to get from a new job what you get between you now. so anything you got could be extra money in the pot! if you get what i mean?
hope this is some help-prob not as i am well aware i babble way too much...

forgot to say guys, me and oh accepted another few mystery shopping assignments between us over last couple of days, so we've now got assignments totalling £85.50 pending inc those in my sig. so really pleased with that-cos it's all savings towards my holiday fund!- which will be at £355.72 paid once all my extra bits go into saves acc! WIPEE!
how is everyone else doin? x0 -
thanks nog, its just sooo hard working different shifts all the time, my neighhbour across the road (who doesnt work but oh does), sed she seen my oh coming into the house, then me bounding down the steps n out the front gate!! its just getting to the point where when we do see each other we argue coz we dont spend enough time together!! its definately not good for the family at all. i know what u mean about the night shifts earning more, thats why we were looking into it coz there is less pressure for me to find a job then - its extra hard coz i live in a little village n havent got a car! hopefully we will sort something out-we always manage somehow! thanks for the advice hun xxxLBM 29/07/ 07

That's great Madmoney :T Well Done!!!
Re your job dilema I don't know that I have much sensible advice, except you might be surprised how many different places you could get a school-hours type of job nowadays - Tesco do (and probably other supermarkets) and banks do as well I think - and others - so it might be worth looking beyond just schools.
That said, I would think in the next week or two a number of CSA jobs will come up in schools so you might get lucky there although I think increasingly they are looking for people with the CSA qualifications or willing to do them.
Good Luck anyway...xProud to be dealing with my debt!
