me and my OH have a huge family, and i have friends who have always bought for each other. I know if i try to limit myself too much over christmas i will go off the rails completly. I will be happy not to add to my debt this year. i have increased my debt loads over christmas for the last 6 years!DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0

i think thats where the majority of every1s debt has come from lunar - xmas is really hard as no1 wants to be labelled a scrooge! my mum says that even tho she was poor as a kid (she was 1 of 13 siblings!!! n im one of 7!), the pressure wasnt as much as it is nowadays, ive just posted on the "how to have a dfw xmas", have a look theres some really good ideas on there;)
how many pesky debters are still going??LBM 29/07/ 07

Just seen this challenge and would loved to have joined it, but I'm in so many challenges now that I can't afford to live! £2 coins go in one jar, all coins 20p and under go in another, then there's the £1k by xmas challenge, need I go on!!
Good luck to all those taking part thoughDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

really pleased cos me n oh between us just accepted another FIVE mystery shopping assignments! so that is another £52.50! obviously havent actually done the assignments yet so not counting the income as "GOT" yet!
think what i will do, is let it all sit nicely in the savings account away from the current account overdraft tradgedy! (might get swallowed up if goes near the current account!!!) but that will be a total of £125.97 saved inc everything in my sig!
now startin a new little task for myself aswell, been giving my mum odd bits of dosh and shes stashed it in a saves account ready to be drawn out at christmas, so got £115 at min, and got sept-nov paydays to go, so hopefully can scrape £200 altogether. that will be the absolute limit for ALL christmas pressies this year with NO exeption! gotta be strong or will spend a BOMB again!
what sort of budgets do you guys give yourselves for pressie buying? i wonder if im a bit tight??? got 2 kids (1+4), my sister and her partner, oh's brother and sister (13+15) 2mums and dads, 6cousins, 1 uncle, 3 lots of grandparents, 1 grandad, and each other if owt left (usually not). after seeing those great hamper things though might have a try at some of those...

I think last year I spent about £200 Noggin - I've tried so hard to be careful. All my family know the financial situation with us, but my oh's don't which makes it tricky but I gave up worrying what they think and to be honest, my MIL and FIL are very well off but I know for a fact that MIL buys almost all presents from Pound shop etc! I just buy for my son, nieces & nephews and parents and hubby. Although I have a massive family of cousins we've thankfully never bought for each other. The hardest thing is resisting things for my ds like madmoney said! But I've been on my DMP for 3 years now so I'm getting used to it! I've got £120 in Quidco and £93 is validated so I'm hoping I'll get that before xmas to help out. I started buying for my hampers yesterday - Woolies have some great gardening stuff reduced - ideal for in-laws. And then I spent £10 in poundland and got loads for nieces' baskets. They had some lovely actual baskets too - quite large so will do for the in-laws and my mum but too big for the kids so I'll try Wilkos for smaller ones!
Really pleased I've made a start!!

Well if it was me whatever you feel comfortable with, with your children they are a priority. I would not really bother with adult brother and sister maybe tell them you can't afford it this year and just get a tub of biscuits or Thorntons do a really nice box of chocolates around the £10 mark. For OH brother and sister 13 - 15 I would use Boots on 3 for 2 and the free gift could be for a parent or something. Grans and Grandads love things made by children and your 4 year old is ideal age! So get messy with them and make something!0 -
my pesky challenge has hit a bit if a hill.. considering that fact that I forgot that we needed to save for the blackpool meet up on the 15th!!! :rotfl: oops..Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
