Please, please don't end up the way I did - still terrified of my father beyond my 40th birthday.

Grab your courage in both hands, and let him flip his lid if he so wishes; you've bent over so far backwards to accommodate his wishes that I fear for the health of your spine! It's time to accommodate your own needs and wishes now.

Who pays for the fuel he uses when he clocks up 1000's of miles?

He fills it up for the duration he has it.. 9 times out of 10 though it comes back to me almost empty. e.g. last Friday I filled the car with £60 of diesel, got it back Saturday afternoon with an extra 800 miles on the clock and just under quarter of a tank left.

Thank you for this message. This touched a raw nerve. OH says this to me.. "why are you 25 years old still running whenever your parents snap their fingers?" For years it was "...because they're my parents and I have to."

Can totally sympathise. I'm quite often the same, but am learning. :)

Respect works both ways, even if they are your parents.

If you choose to accommodate your parents it this extent, it should be because you want to, not because you feel you have to, or are scared of the consequences if you don't.

Or if you think you'll find it hard to say "No" to your dad, how about selling the car, giving your dad his share of the proceeds then going without one for a few weeks? It doesn't sound like you use a car much anyway, and it'd force him to sort himself out car and insurance-wise.

Why the heck do you allow your dad dictate to you what car you should own for his own pleasure?

Tell him to buy his own chuffing car, father or not!

From what I picked up, the OP's father didn't contribute to the car in any way?

Had passed my test at 17 but with this being my first car, it was majorly expensive to run so my dad insured himself on my car with me as a named driver (I paid my % of the insurance). To say thanks, I would let him drive the car as and when needed when he came to visit. (Those who read my other thread will know my parents moved abroad in my late teens).

Just to point out OP, you do know this is illegal (insurance fraud), right?
