Car boot sale advice - updated 2013

You can get rid of almost anything at a boot sale BUT can you explain what it is you are trying to sell - eg build a small one and stand it on your car roof with a notice explaining what it is and how much you want for each "kit". Otherwise it will look like a builder's left overs and you will be offered junk prices for it.
You might do better on-line, with a card at the allotment society, or with a free add in your local free paper (remember those:D).0 -
Hi, I am doing a car boot next Sunday, 20th March and have masses of stuff to sell, including about 200 CD's... but have no idea what to charge for them, they are all in perfect condition and vary from Country and Western to Northern Soul and Take That to Nick Drake.... but have no idea what to charge. My friend said £3 which I thought a bit expensive, I want to get rid, I thought £1 but if I could get more then thats good..... any idea what they go for at a car boot?0

To be honest you won't get much for CD's because there are so many out there. Have you tried Music Magpie? They buy them, usually at only 30p a go mind you, but for rarer ones or biggers one you can get more. Won't be a fortune but better than nothing. You could try selling them at the Car Boot first (probably at about 50p a go depending on the condition etc) and then try Music Magpie.OD [STRIKE] £2600 [/STRIKE] £0 :j Loan [STRIKE]£9500.00[/STRIKE] £0 :j Car [STRIKE]£3150[/STRIKE] £0 :j Moving Costs [STRIKE]£1300[/STRIKE] £0 :j Savings £1150 :j

I do very few car boots and the prices locally seem cheap. I was being offered 10p a CD last Autumn when i did my last boot sale and I was accepting it until I came to my senses and remembered music magpie.
You could try them at say £1 each or 3 for £2 and if they don't sell at that price drop to say 50p later in the morning. Then if they don't sell at 40 or 50p take them home and send them to music magpie.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Went (as a buyer) to my first car boot of the year this morning.
I think there must be a recessions on, even when it very first opened the prices were lower than I rememberred from last yera. Paperbacks on average 30p and CDs 50p..and still no one buying. I was standing being my usual indecisive self over a DVD that the seller wanted £1 for, and as I stood them deciding she just kept dropping the price and I got it for 30p.
I was going to go as a seller next week, but i don't think I will just yet. I'll see if I can find a better car boot or wait for the weather to improve.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I agree with soolin - start at £1 per CD. I often buy CDs at bootsales and will pay £1 each for some - I did this morningNot been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/1550

Thanks for that. I would be more than happy if they all sold for £1 each and I really dont want to bring anything home so reductions and offers will be the order of the day....
Thanks again and I will let you know how I get on0 -
:j Car boot done and dusted.
Didnt sell many CDs, even at 50p, but tomorrow I will sit and sell them to Magpie or whoever.
Sold nearly all the stuff I took with the exception of CDs and DVDs and a few books so really happy and made over £200, which I think is pretty good for a load of old rubbish!

We managed to shift a lot of stuff and made £160 which I thought was really good as all we had really was dvd's and clothes. I got rid of all of my clothes for roughly £1-£2 each. A lot of the clothes were good names whistles, miss sixty, ted baker. I had miss sixty jeans that I was selling for a £1 and one person said it was expensive. I have changed sizes so the clothes were usless , (all the good stuff etc new with tags ( mistakes!)I had sold beforehand on ebay), so I was glad to get something for them than to take them back home. Also, It dosen't matter what the label is your not going to get much more for it. ( unless obvioulsy you are selling lots of jimmy choos size 4 which if you are please let me know!.....)
My advice is, even if you are trying to raise cash quickly for a holiday etc, only sell something that you really don't want. There is always something that you like but think you will get a lot for, the majority of times that never works, and you end up selling something that you liked for bext to nothing.
If you are a one off car booter like me (i.e once every couple of years, unless you want to end up taking everything back home you will have to be prepared to let things go very very cheaply.I had miss sixty jeans that I was selling for a £1 and one person said it was expensive
Too expensive! Is this person taking the mick? They won't find that in a shop for £1!! You always get one don't you. :exclamati0 -
