I'm due to clear out the garage and do a car boot sale this weekend. Someone at work told me that it is forbidden to sell any electrical items at car boot sales now. Is this true??!

    Thanks

As long as you stick to the rules of the site where you're selling, you can sell anything you like. My local site forbids the sale of food, alcohol, cigarettes, knives and weapons. No restrictions on electrical items at all. It's sold as seen and buyers take their chances. Charity shops don't sell electrical items, and auction houses only sell electrical items as "scrap" as they can't verify that they're useable.

Today, I've seen people buy hoovers, microwaves, mp3 players and radios to name a few.

well the car is packed and its my first cb in about 10 years, no tat for sale tho i have been a bit picky as i find when i go i like neater details stalls but thats maybe me not being a rummager, All my items have been cleaned and tested and it will be plentiful but not overcrowded,

The one im doing is at Spalding Baytree garden centre, well its ran by the Fun Farm just next door and its usually very very good and big. fingers crossed ill make some pennies,

I have decided to price mark things up as i dont do them regularly but would be prepared to do some more in different places should things not go, some of my things is worth some good money so as i said i can hold out,

car is packed sarnies made and its only about 3 miles away which is a bonus, this one usually starts at 11am but today i found out the bank holiday ones start at 7am so its early doors for me!

Not sure where you got this information but its incorrect.

Some charity shops do sell electricals - they just have to be Portable Applicance Tested (PAT tested) by a trained & certified person. The chain I run sell plenty of electrical items and make good money from them too

The auction house part is wrong too - I've been to many auctions selling fully working electrical goods which are not sold as "scrap". Just like any auction item the house does its research and sells the item with a description of the lot being sold

Thank goodness, I thought it was just me!

Every auction house I've ever been to sells untested electrical items.

Just checking the auctions over the next couple of weeks here:
    http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb

and just looking at lamp bases returns 190 lots.

These ones even show the plug is still on in photos:

One of my favourite websites Soolin - a wonderful tool for the subscription fee as well. One months free trial which is easy to cancel to if anyone is thinking of trying it out

I keep being offered the months trial and have been tempted. I use the site a lot though and often have a live auction on in the background listening for prices and trends.

I am already pre approved for bidding on more auctions in the next two weeks, and went to two live ones last week alone. It is quite addictive isn't it!

I could sit and watch all day, its just so interesting. I sell for work which is why I use the site so I'm not registered to buy but I love to see what everything sells for

The car is packed and we're up at 5.15 tomorrow! It's mostly clothes. We've got 3 big boxes of stuff, and then a rail with 'named' stuff on. We thought we'd do the rail stuff for a quid, and try for '50p each, 3 for a quid' for the stuff in the boxes. We've got some of kiddo's trainers and footy boots that she's outgrown that we'll sell for a couple of pounds, hopefully, then just some odds and s0ds that we'll sell for whatever we can get! Oh, and we've got a fish tank, one of the orb type ones with a built in light and filter. I think we're going to ask for a fiver for that, but let it go for less. I'm quite excited!
  • I love a good boot, good luck everyone for tomorrow
Food and Smellies Shop target £50 pw - managed average of £49 per week in 2013 down to £38.90 per week in 2016
  • Yeahh and me! So excited for tomorrow so im having an early night. Missed last week due to doing my own carboot sale. x
