If wealthy and retired is not now an oxymoron.
Taunton (?) is a bit of a long way for me drive on a Sunday morning.:rotfl:
I find that in "rich" areas it is possible to get higher prices BUT the buyers are picky. I might as well go through the bother of Ebaying individual items.
When trying to clear a house it is better to get rid of stuff at knock down prices, to buyers that are 50% migrants, if the alternative is to pay someone to take it away.
John.
oxymoron: A figure of speech in which two contradictory terms appear together for emphasis, for example, "deafening silence".
Definitely not rich areas.
Exeter mainly but all across Devon and Somerset the prices are the same. Gloucester has a reputation for them being even higher, though I don't know that myself.
We are clearing a house of a relative - the stuff flies out even at those prices. The buyers are definitely not picky - some of the crap we've got rid of astounds me.
Even the 'house clearance' firms charge the same prices though granted there are some bargains to be had too.
ETA: It does surprise me that these prices are considered 'higher' though! Surely it's not worth the time doing a boot sale if you have to sell everything for 10-20p!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". I'm due to clear out the garage and do a car boot sale this weekend. Someone at work told me that it is forbidden to sell any electrical items at car boot sales now. Is this true??!
Thanks0 -
I think that in theory they have to be tested - not that they work but they are not lethal when you plug them in.
That's what they do at a local house clearance auction.
Stuff that is really dodgy has its cord cut off and labelled "spares only" and "Trade buyers only".
[but I don't think they check too carefully if you present some sort or business card]0 -
Struck in the exit queue at Nuthill Fruit Farm car boot. 45min and counting...
Got to say, I think this is the worst part of the whole experience. I'd rather deal with muggers!0 -
Can anybody recommend any good (preferably cheap!) car boots/jumble sales in the derby area? xxx
ps. im going as a buyer rather than a seller.Every act of kindness, no matter how small, isn’t wasted ❤️

Did a car boot this morning and it was a real slog. I was joking with a neighbouring booter that everyone wanted something for nothing and we did laugh when we saw a booter a few stalls down towards the end putting a sign up just saying 'can't be bothered to do this again, so please help yourself for free'.

Are there any good websites that I would be able to check out to see if there are any good car boot sales in my local area on Good Friday or Easter Monday? I have tried googling, but some of the websites don't seem to get updated from one year to the next. Thank you.0
