@Gunjack. The upgrade cost to Office 2013 is for me to pay.

@bsod. My existing Toshiba Portege is 14" hence my question. I'm not sure why you come to the conclusion that I am throwing money at it. I have asked questions and received valuable replies and guidance which I am following.
You also mention "" The way you are headed with this shop hardware and software upgrade, you could have bought a new machine, they don't all cost £682 "" ; Am just asking how much would you put in a new Laptop and what would you get for that.

This is arbitrary as I have decided to up-grade my existing Laptop as discussed above. Thanks for reply.

PS: Have challenged the shop about the price they gave me on the 4GB RAM sticks. Those offered were 1600Mhz as opposed to the 1066Mhz of Nifty's posts. Does that make a difference? I am being techie here !

Yes those 1600mhz sticks might not work with your current laptop, the i3-370m is rather fussy about it's memory type and if I remember correctly it might have to be low density memory sticks or memory sticks that emulate it. I think the ones Nifty Digits directed you to are the correct type. The max speed memory for your CPU 1066mhz so putting in faster than 1066mhz will have no effect.
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.

The price would be the less for 1600 MHz.

For what is the £100 at the shop? The only thing that needs doing is backing up your data(email etc)and then re-applying it after the install? Will they do that or not?

    Which SSD exactly?

Hi Nifty. Yes they will back up and reinstall. Don't know what type SSD am afraid. I will ask.

    Point taken for the 1600MHz v 1066.

£50 for the backup, fitting and reinstall is not unreasonable.

Leave this one and it's misleading figures on the shelf.

Forget about it, choose the Samsung EVO 850 within the link that I posted earlier(post #37), for £49.
