Use some of the money you saved to buy yourself a nice t-shirt and wear it with pride when you next go shopping0

I shop at Morrisons and they are brilliant. They often beckon me with a shake of their head to something that they are reducing. When you are on a limited budget it is amazing to have a piece of fish for 50 pence or a nice piece of meat cheap. It means the difference between eating rubbish and eating well. I often get a barbecued chicken for a pound and it goes soooooo far. They boys at the chicken counter always tell me if they are about to reduce things and the bakery lads too. Trouble is the bakery stuff is too good to resist and I end up buying things no good for me. I would prefer to be a womble than a vulure any day but oh well a wombling wulture I am.0

Make sure you get down about 1-2 hours before the stores close on a Sat night / Sunday afternoon or of a week night if the stores are not 24 hour, as there are so many bargains to grab. There are all the time, but when the stores close, lots more.
I got bored of tracking my savings but I was working out my savings for a short while recently, it must be over £100 saved at least in the last few months alone, by buying reduced stuff and I'm not even the main food buyer etc. It would be good to see how much one has saved saved over a year, as when it is seen in black and white, it's worth a lot.
As an example from when I did work it out recently, I got £51.50 worth of stuff for £12.38, so I saved £39.12 which was over 2 visits, I've saved loads more since but not bothered working it out.
I've spotted other regulars down my local stores going after the reduced stuff at closing time.I just got a load of bread and other stuff to go in the freezer tonight, 10p each.

Not sure what I can do really but I went into a supermarket to get some flour (new breadmaker owner = :j ) anyway I digress.... whilst I was looking in the aisles the 'reduction' woman came by and started reducing loads of food. So like any good moneysaver I had a look and myself and another lady got a few items. The 'reduction' woman just kept on going so we both looked at what she reduced and between us decided if we wanted them or not. Not everything obviously, just bits and pieces. Other shoppers got stuff as well.
Myself and the other shopper were happily chatting away about how well timed this was as it meant that we could fill up the freezer.
Anyway we parted ways and I went around another aisle just shopping when I saw the 'reduction' woman up ahead of me. As I was going the same way as her I stopped nearby to buy some items (not reduced) she kind of looked at me out of the corner of her eye with, I have to say, a pretty dirty look on her face.
As I pushed my trolley nearer another shopper came up and said to her (the worker) 'they're like vulture's aren't they', to which the worker replied 'It's awful I hate doing this part of the job, I really hate it and yes I know what you mean', then gave me a shifty sideways look again.
I was so cheesed off as the comment was obviously aimed at me, I kind of stood there for a bit before thinking I'd better go off because I may say something I'll regret.
Before I went I did see the other shopper take a newly reduced item from the worker though.
Anyway when I got to the tills 2 lovely workers helped me pack and actually congratulated me on getting so many bargains. I mentioned the above and they were really shocked, however as the 'Vulture' comment came from a shopper not connected with the supermarket I didn't feel there was much I could do.
But I'm left feeling quite upset about this, I felt humiliated by those two and their comments.
Anyway I totted up what the shopping shuld have come to, £76.40 and I got it for £22.60 so I am a happy bunny on the whole.
I may email the supermarket though but I don't reckon there is a whole lot they can do about the incident.
Well, complain. Not for any kind of recompense, just because people with that attitude simply do not deserve to have a job where they have to mix with other people.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. i've been in tesco at the bakery area before and one of the shop assistants was reducing things - she stopped me from picking something up and told me to wait a minute as it would be reduiced when she got to it... then pointed at the other stuff that was due to be reduced so that i could have a look if i wanted.
i would have had considerable trouble in the OPs position not saying something like 'excuse me, is that insult directed at me?', just to make them squirm!:happyhear0 -
You're no vulture, you're simply buying items that will otherwised be thrown in the bin by the store.
Myself and my mum are the same, we swoop down on the reduction hot spots in asda pretty much every friday and get hella good deals! Last friday we got a trolly full of packets of Salmon which should have been almost £5 a pack for 30p each!
There's nothing to be ashamed of. If i were you I'd put it down in writing, state the approximate time and date you were in the store too - that way they should be able to find out who was doing the reducing and give them a good telling off.:heartsmil Proud Weight Watcher :heartsmilStart Weight: 15st 13lb Current Weight: 10st 5lbTotal Loss to Date: 5st 8lb- - -Current 2011 Goal: Lose 8lb by 25th DecemberLoss This Week: -3 Total Loss 2011: -30 -
I do this to but never get that many bargains! So well done.
Please complain as these stupid little comments are not appropriate.0 -
I used to do the reductions at my local Sainsbury's when i was at Uni. I must admit that 90% of the people that followed me around where a complete pain in the @rse, i would be writing away and they would stick things under my nose and say are you reducing this.
It may sound insignificant but when you are doing a mind numbing job for hours on end you don't need the hassle.
So please leave the people to do their job.what a 42 carat plonker you really are Rodders0 -
Last time I was in Sainsburys I went to get some bread and the chap came up to me and said "hang on, I'm just going to Orange sticker those, how many are you after?" I managed to get 10 loaves instead of 5!The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10
