Sounds positive overall! Shame about the mortgage payments, but at least every month you're getting in a better position to be able to get a better deal.
I hope the conversation with your fella goes well, whenever it happens.0 -
Hi IWBF,
I'm so glad you've decided to 'come clean' to your other half, I'm sure that trying to keep it all to yourself is making the general situation even worse for you - a problem shared is a problem halved and all that jazz
Hopefully in 6 months or so you will be able to get a better deal on the mortgage and hopefully stop having to make that massive extra payment, fingers crossed for you!:j PAID VERY, Barclaycard x3, Vanquis, Natwest, O/D, Tesco & MBNA x2 PAID :j LBM 24/07/15 - Original Debt: £0/31010.23 (100% paid)

Hello!
Just thought I'd pop by and say hi. Good luck for your job also!! I'm in two minds about mine, as on one hand I want to continue contracting for a bit so I can throw more at my debt, but as they have kinda lead me on and probably wont make me perm - not any time soon anyway, I feel I should sort out a perm job, albeit lower pay. Decisions decisions. I suppose if they like me at the new place I can try barter with them. Nothing to loose at the moment I guess.
There's no harm in treating yourself occasionally, your working so hard on your budget/debt so you deserve it. Sorry to hear about the mortgage, must be frustrating. Is there a reason why you cant switch deals yet?

Hey Lacherlich
Good to 'see' you on this sideI'll pop over to your diary to catch up on your job news.
I was unsuccessful with the application I put in, which was not surprising but disappointing nontheless. Nothing else in the horizon unfortunately so keep ploughing on and hoping something will come up.
I think you are very brave contracting but totally understand why, the pay is higher and you do get options to stay or find something else if you do not like it! I am more of a permanent job kind of gal as I like to have stability long term, but the older I get (40 next year ) the more I think about starting my own business which is another reason I am working on being debt free as I want that option.
I think I over treated myself in SeptemberI can't switch deals as I think I am seen as a high risk - too much debt on three credit cards. I am hoping as time passes and I pay off more, my credit record will improve and I will be able to get a mortgage deal and a balance transfer card!
See you at yours
xOn 23.6.15 I panicked when I realised I owed £37,311.62
I will be debt free [STRIKE]by July 2018[/STRIKE] as soon as I can. Current debt £26,473.73
I am now living within my means - without an overdraft and with a (YNAB) budget0 -
I have not been here for a week or so and can honestly say, I never know where time goes! As usual, work is super busy but going well and the time away from the office has been busy with social stuff, walks with the hounds and the gym.
Work is progressing in the house, to get back where things were before the leak and upheaval of June. I cannot wait to have it all completed
Budgetting didn't work out very well in September as I misread the letter from my mortgage company. As I am now out of the fixed rate deal, my payment went up by £110. I thought that would apply from the end of October payment but, it actually applied from the September paymentLuckily, I had some unexpected money come in, for £100, which I was going to pay off the Barclaycard, but that was used to cover my underbudgeting.
Generally speaking, in September, I treated myself quite a bit with some clothes, face care products, higher grocery bills and a few bottles of wine. All within the budget, but it feels like I had a break from my intense debt repayment. In one respect, I feel I needed the little break but on the other, I feel I could have paid some more off my debt. Looking back, I paid £3,000 out of two paychecks in July/August and it was so blooming hard but somehow, I did it. So, my target for the next two paychecks is to do the same again and pay £3,000 off in October/November. I'm bracing myself
I was so disappointed recently about not being able to get a re-mortgage deal. I was also debating whether to tell my fella about my financial position. As we were chatting one evening about 'us' and where we see 'us' going, he told me that he knows I am in debt and he can see how much I've changed my ways recently which is very re-assuring for him. He was so open and loving and caring in what he was saying, not prying and not wanting to make me uncomfortable but essentially saying that we are so good together that we should spend more time with each other and the obvious way to do that, would be to move in together:D:D I admit I had thought this was where we were going but my thinking was that it would happen in two years or so when I was debt free. Very much insular thinking which didin't take into account his needs or wants or mine really, just focussing on the debt.
We need to discuss this a lot more, and I need to be totally open about things as I have to admit I choked up and let him do most of the talking, but I am so happy that I have such a wonderful man in my life
So, really, it is a good thing the re-mortgage deal didn't work out as we now need to decide whether we would like to rent my place or sell it. Pros and cons in both and we are not rushing, but starting to put a plan together.
Onwards and upwards....On 23.6.15 I panicked when I realised I owed £37,311.62

Yay, glad things are progressing well with your fella!
(FWIW, I jokingly suggested to then-BF that he could move in at some point - I was thinking 6+ months' time - as I wasn't getting much interest in sharing my 2-bed flat. He moved in 3 weeks later :P and we've been happily cohabiting since.)
Good for you on buckling down on the debt again. Even if you take an "easy" month every now and then, you're still making good progress. It won't do you any good to deprive yourself for ages and then undo your hard work with a blowout because you've been scrimping so long.0 -

Thank you so much hiddenshadow
You made me chuckle with the eagerness of your other half to move in! :rotfl: Very glad you are ever so happy. Long may it continue!
I think we are kind of aiming for it to happen in the next 6 months. Have the hounds to consider and lots of decluttering at both places - perfect excuse to sell stuff
I think it will be a huge challenge but I like to be pushed. I can pay £1,100 each month, all being well. Raising it to £1,500 will require some significant effort in selling stuff and not spending but, bring it on :money:On 23.6.15 I panicked when I realised I owed £37,311.62

That is brilliant news
- congratulations to you and your fella.
And don't be too hard on the debt busting front - £3k in 2 months is great going. Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Fab news IWBF, I'm not sure if I believe in fate but if it does exist then this would be perfect proof! Sounds like you have great plans for blitzing that debt, I plan to do a similar thing to you, and go hell for leather for three months followed by a month off. Sometimes you need a break from things. Yeah it might delay the DFD a little but we have lives to live too!0

Hey!
Ah the job just wasn't meant to be - but keep looking! Update your CV online too, it will bring you to the top of search results so might get the odd recruiter contacting you with jobs. It's how I search for jobs, without 'actively' looking... ha.
Well I was really worried when I first started contracting. was completely new to me and you feel a bit left to your own devices and expected to understand everything about how it all works. Eventually made sense of everything - but still that uncertainty. I'd prefer a perm role, but the contracting suits my need at the mo towards debt repayments. Ohh what kind of business do you want to start? I'd love to do that, but no idea where to start or what I'd want to do. Baking would be amazing, but there's probably tonnes of competition and not sure how profitable.
Well thats a shame about the mortgage, but I guess this may be irrelevant now depending on where the move takes you! Congrats, thats a huge step and happy your fella is so understanding. Seems he has proved himself and then some. And in the long run, sharing bills will help you even more when it comes to having free money for your debt. Seems all is going well
Congrats on the 3k every other month. Thats an amazing figure, wish I could be that bit more strict with my'free' cash. Im trying not to spend much this month, but my birthday is next week so that will be my real test!Debt: £9,750/[STRIKE] £27,000[/STRIKE] loan - monthly payments of £450. Overpaying £850 a month.0
