In answer to some of the questions:
I don't have the iPad it's at my Parents in Chelmsford and I live in south London so can't provide photos. But JL on seein it said it was a fake, first it didn't work and second the logos were not even correct.
It was a cellophane wrapper only. Like this http://youtu.be/
John Lewis called Apple from the store after my parents returned it. Apple said they match serial numbers between device and box and then seal it. Then ship it. So they do not believe it is their responsibility.
John Lewis were meant to contact my parents this evening after their 'investigations' but have not bothered, so will call tomorrow.
Pursuing charge back and am wondering if they would cover this given it is not about goods not being turned up or card fraud. There is a letter template you can use but not sure how I would word this to get the cash back.0 -

and if it's been used i'm sure apple or someone could find it by its activity0 -
OP, I think you should change the title of your thread and remove the word "scam" as it's implying that JL are operating a fake ipad scam, which of course they're not.0

This this this.
I suspect the genuine Ipad could be in the hands (or passed through the hands) of a John Lewis employee......0 -
Op so sorry I had a nightmare with John Lewis a few years ago which by chance was when I tried to buy an Ipad.

I normally buy in store but could not get out of the office so ordered on line. They took my money then without notice sent an email saying that my order which was a 40th present for my Oh had been cancelled. They classed an ipad as a "high risk product".
Have to say Jlewis where terrible and customer service was a laugh. I am not saying that in this case john lewis has a scam and I genuinely don't think that you will ever really get to the bottom of what has happened but it is unfair that your parents should end up out of pocket.
The only good experience or luck for me was that I did in the end get my money back.
If it is any help when Jlewis messed up my order ( the ipad was new out and there was at the time a waiting list which is why I preordered) I called Apple themselves. They where amazing and got my one special delivery to arrive the next day.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0
