Help. Fake iPad scam from John Lewis.

No I haven't, thanks but isn't this mainly for non delivery of goods or if a company goes into administration? If it's fraud I still have to prove we are a victim of crime rather than the bad guys. We will get in touch. Thanks.
Re use of word 'Scam' yes I agree with the post that JL is unlikely to be part of the scam, I just meant that somewhere, somehow my parents have been the victims of some kind of a 'scam'.0 -
Can I ask what you were expecting when you posted on the forum?0

It's not the consumer's job to prosecute a crime. Do you really believe a fraud has been committed by John Lewis?
You just need to show that the goods supplied were not those ordered.
Convince one of: a) John Lewis, b) your card issuer, or c) a small claims court, and a satisfactory conclusion is reached.0 -
At no point had the iPad been out of my parent sight in the 4 days they had it.
So they had it for 4 days, and during that timeThey had taken it out of the box to look at it and removed the screen film but had not set it up or switched it on.
So what did they do with it?At no point had the iPad been out of my parent sight in the 4 days they had it.
apart from carry it round for 4 days?0 -
They took it home and left in a drawer. Out of curiosity they took off the cellophane off the box and looked at the device but I'm now told that's all they did. The screen film is still there and they never set it up as they wouldn't have a clue. They were waiting for me to do this for them.0

((soon realised that they did not actually need such an extravagance and could have easily made do with a lesser model. They were after all not very technologically aware and realised they would not need the features of the latest device. ))
A judgement was made without even switching on the product as to the features .
No mention of the seal on the box ??0 -
They naively assumed they had to have the latest and felt persuaded to splash out. On reflection they realised that they could have a previous edition iPad for less which on their pensions was more affordable to them. They are very indecisive! And easily taken on by smart sakes people.
They took off the cellophane covering of the box which was sealed is that what you mean? There was no other seals as such e.g stickers etc0 -
If you get the money back go for a £99 Hudl.0

I mirror another comment on here and check this with Apple to by contacting them with a brief detailing of the actual product you have, John Lewis would in no way sell an item that is not knowingly a true brand so the chances here are as follows :-
Somebody at Apple placing fake products in the chain, Quite unlikely due to rigorous checks in the picking, packing and shipping cycle.
Somebody at John Lewis switching a real for a fake product, Does seem unlikely to but not beyond the realms of possibility as a rouge employee could have access to these from point of receiving said item and after being checked in may have switched.
So try Apple and ignore the store/manager and go straight through to the CEO as per email address here :

Not sure about either of those options.
The only possibility that I can see is a Returns fraud - someone bought a genuine iPad from JL, then returned the box with the fake in it and obtained a refund. Whoever received the return did not check it properly, and it was subsequently re-sold.
Negligence on the part of JL, rather than fraud, and even that is a stretch in terms of plausibility.0
