A great site for all things camping & caravanning can be found here...the folks are truly passionate about camping!

Apart from camping cheques mentioned earlier, the caravan club often do reduced rates for booking ferries & sites in Europe. Also, don't forget good old Tesco Clubcard as you can use the Clubcard Deals to book your ferry with P&O, Irish Ferries, Eurotunnel amongst others. I think Tesco need leaning on a little though as P&O are finishing their deal with them on November 30th, so any ferry travel needs to be booked by that date.
Check the sites policies on having an additional tent on the pitch (space permitting). It has been noted (especially in France) that some of the pitches are HUGE and you pay for the pitch + people. I've seen many a pitch with a caravan and a couple of tents too. So if the pitches are large enough, SHARE!
UK sites have raised their prices (due to demand) and are really not that cheap anymore, especially in peak season. Have a look at the Caravan Club 'CL' sites (certified locations) as they are often excellent value for money and many accept tents.
If you are wondering whether to go for a tent or a caravan, consider a folding camper or trailer tent. That way you can use Caravan Club sites too (as they can't decide if you are a tent or a caravan!).0 -
We just got back from this moneysaving site near Looe & Polperro, Cornwall; www.westwayland.freeserve.co.uk/
5 nights in our caravan for £10 per night incl. electric hookup0 -

Just be aware before you part with the £30+ to join!
The trick with the Caravan Club or the Camping&Caravan Club is not to use their big (nice but pricey) sites but stick to the 5 van only Certificated Locations. There rarely charge more than £6 / night and a soooo peaceful! They are far more basic but if you paid for a caravan with a shower already then why pay for site with another one!Andy
:rolleyes:0 -
We've just returned from camping in Northumberland, cost £5 per night, 2 adults and as many children under 18 as you have. This was a temporary holiday site with no facilities, but virtually all caravans have all the facilities you need anyway
Join http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk for £33 per year, monthly magazine, huge book of campsites in UK, and loads of special offers
Similarly, I just had 2 weeks in Scotland, first near Pitlochry £5.30 p/n and second near Edinburgh £5.00 p/n.
Had a great week in the peaceful countryside followed by a week at the fringe.
:T:j:rotfl:I have a cunning plan!

Rallies are a great way to go camping for very little money. UKCampsite.co.uk do them as do the Camping and Caravanning Club and the Caravan Club. One particular site with a pool in S Wales is expensive during the school holiday but the C&CC have a rally there for £6 a night per unit (staying in the rally field but full use of facilities). Worth paying the £30 odd fee to join the club if you make use of their rallies. Cheapest one we have done was with UKCampsite, £3.75 per night per unit (no electric).“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I can certainly recommend club rallies. I've just booked a caravanning holiday in Bridlington for £4 p.n. Sea views, but no electric, but hey who cares, i'm on holiday!!0

I have been in the caravan club for a couple of years and joined mainly because we have a big caravan and sometimes some sites dont let you on or are a bit awkward with you cos they think you are gypsies!!! we tend not to go on the caravan club sites very often. having said that just been to dunnet bay near john o groats. lovely site and faciliites but nearly dropped as £22 per night for 2 adults and 2 children, so they are no cheaper than a ordinary site, in fact a couple of pounds more expensive than some we have stayed at recently in peak season.
dont forget if you want to stay on a haven site for entertainment to book via quidco!!!Just about to give up!0 -
Couple of tips if you fancy caravanning (or camping) in France, which is a great place for either and much better than the UK.
1 - Offset the cost of the payage by staying at the service areas (Aire de) or service stations overnight for free. Always toilet/washing facilities and the service stations have restaurants.
2 - Stay at the Camping Municipal. All towns have a municipal campsite which is usually around a fiver a night (or less) and the facilities are always first class.0 -
For us campers who like everything provided on a plate, use the big company brochures ie Eurocamp, Haven, Sunsites etc to select a camping site then search on the web to see if the site has its own website and book accomodation directly with them. Especially during peak season this can save you a fortune.0
