Well I have posted the form back to them, so it is in the lap of the gods now, will just have to wait and see what happens.

Presumably he will have to attend a medical assessment, even though he has attended them for the ESA claim. You would think that they could cross reference the information to confirm his actual health issues.

They're different benefits looking at different issues. You can get PIP and work full time, so an assessment would be pretty useless for assessing ability to work, just as one example.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

    This can be true.
However, it can also be false in certain cases.

For example, if you're given PIP because you cannot stand and then walk 20m, and also in the pack is the fact that you can't use an unpowered chair - then you would be entitled to ESA in the support group, because you meet the 'can't mobilise 50m' descriptor.

Similarly, if PIP has information that you are blind, and cannot read braille.

I think you credit the DWP with too much deity status there:)

I complete forms at the CAB, as a volunteer, and I always explain this in the "Other Information" box, adding that the data has been given to me by the claimant, and family members, and I am merely writing it on their behalf.

So many people are daunted by the sheer volume of these forms, and the amount of information required, a lot of which seems to be duplicated.

However, it really is vital that as much supporting documentation is submitted, and the fullest details given, as this method seems to result in a high success rate.

By the way, those friends on here who have followed my story, as a long-term carer for my late DH, who had Alzheimer's, and then as a widow, may like to know that after 3 months at the CAB, I love my job, and am so pleased that I can help others.

Just wondered, did you fill the form in yourself or get CAB or suchlike to help? I only ask because the man I spoke to when requesting the form, said a lot of people do this.

So is the general assumption from them that people are not capable of filling in the form and should seek help? If so, then why do they make it so long and drawn out?

I like to think that I am a reasonably intelligent person and so should be able to do this, but of course there is a huge difference between what a normal person writes down and what those in the "know" put down. So can't decide what is the best thing to do.

I didn't fill the form in at all which obviously hindered my claim considerably. I explained to DWP that the wiating list for help was too long and they said they would proceed with my claim. This was January. My Gp mentioned that he'd been sent forms in August and I had an assessment at home in November. Decision and backpay arrived a week later!:T

My OH had a letter today from ATOS saying they had been passed his PIP application by the DWP. It's a bit strange really because I posted it on Monday, DWP received it on Tuesday, but ATOS letter also says they received it on Tuesday and their short letter to OH was dated Wednesday. It all seems to be extremely fast and looks like it went straight to ATOS without DWP even looking at it:(

Says that ATOS will be in touch within the next 16 weeks if they want to see him, which I am 100% sure that they will.

From ATOS receiving my PIP application to receiving award letter was a very quick turn around. Fortunately for me I didn't have to attend a face to face assessment and was awarded enhanced daily living, yet was not awarded any mobility component even though they acknowledged I did have difficulties going out. However I'm not going to ask for a reconsideration even though I was in receipt of DLA low rate mobility. I don't feel it's worth the extra stress.

Hopefully you will hear soon and your OH awarded without face to face assessment. Please keep us updated :)

I think he will probably get called in for a face to face because he always has for his ESA. The ATOS office in our local town, which is a fairly rural area, never seems that busy and so undoubtedly they want to get as many people in as possible to make as much money as possible.

Do you think being called in for a face to face varies on whether you live in an extremely populated area or out in the sticks?

I don't think it matters where you live to be honest. It would be very unfair if the DWP worked that way.

I think from me starting the claim over the phone to getting my award letter was probably less than 6 weeks.
