Went to see A Monster Calls last night
Whilst I enjoyed it, and thought the young boy was excellent.... I am trying to work out the target audience.
It is a 12A, but what with the mix of mediums, and the subject matter....

I would not say "There was not a dry eye in the house", but you could have certainly heard a pin drop......
At least it shut up the noisy eaters.

Insight is not yet available to see who the BBFC recommend see it. But when I saw it on Monday, I thought that 12 year olds and older would be okay watching it. Maybe as low as 10 but certainly not small children given the storyline and topics it focuses on.

It didn't shut them up the in every we watched at. One couple ate and chatted all the way through giggling at inappropriate moments, after it finished a guy who sat near them commented on how noisy they'd been. He got the most foul mouthed rant back in return

I'd have hushed them during the movie. There's nothing I hate more. Mobile phone glare comes next
  • My wife and I had four tickets for A Monster Calls last night but couldn't go. Gave them to another family member but I was interested to hear if it was suitable for kids. My daughter is six and son 10 and he's super senative to people passing away so I wasn't too sure if this would be suitable.

I managed to get tickets for Why Him, does anyone know what certificate it is? Not sure if it's a 15 or a 12A!

BBFC haven't got Insight up for this film yet but I discussed this with someone after I watched it on Monday. We don't think it's suitable for small children. We thought anyone under 10 would find it quite troubling and upsetting. The death scene isnt particularly upsetting but right from the start, it is obvious that the mother is very ill.
If you're going to take your children, maybe sit on the end of the row and close to the exit, so you can leave easily if your children become upset.

We had the full range of noisy eaters, whisperers and mobile glare at my screening last night! 😡 Very irritating!

    IMDB gives it R
Official MPAA Rating: Rated R for strong language and sexual material throughout

I wouldn't take your children there for above reasons read the spoilers in the link above.
