Got to agree with you on Why Him, loved the toilet humour (literally)0

What was the sound quality like? Was surround sound on and which chain did you see it at?
Sound was OK.
Clear and at the right volume.
It never struck me that there was any SURROUND aspect to it at all.
This was screened at Derby`s old Showcase, (NOT the "new" Cinema De Lux" ), which has existed for 25 years or more.
I`m sure the equipment isn`t the original but doubt it will be the latest.

I saw it at Liverpool Showcase and the sound was only coming from the screen itself. This often happens at previews and when I tell them usually they rectify it and surround sound comes on. Tonight it was difficult to hear and later I was told there was nothing wrong. Am pretty sure the studio would like the film to be heard properly.0 -
LION
An excellent film with many tense, some rather disturbing, thrilling and very emotional moments.
Eight year old SUNNY PAWAR DESERVES AN OSCAR :T
Would love to give it a 10/10 but it did seem quite a lot longer than the stated 1 hour 58 minutes
A definite 9.5 though - even happy to go 9.9 if scoring to the tenth and not the half.
Not sure why it "dragged" a little in places since most of it was fast paced and given the content, covering over 25 years in under 2 hours is quite a feat.
Based on a true story, it was nice to see footage of the real people involved at the end
Suggest a box of tissues if you are the teary type
Well worth seeing - definitely recommended

On another note - there was an incident in the foyer on the way out.
A (free-standing) "promotional display unit" full of Odeon gift cards and what appeared to be round silver coloured metal film canisters (maybe 6 to 8 inches in diameter and an inch thick) toppled forward throwing them all over the floor.
I don't know if it fell all the way but there was a very distressed middle-aged lady who was being held up and comforted by 2 or 3 others only a few feet away.
After a minute or so, quite clearly shaken by something, her legs gave way and she ended up sitting on the floor.
The unit must have been at least 6 feet tall and probably 4 feet wide.
It was backed up against a round column but this could not have been more than half its width, leaving a fair bit (a foot or more) sticking out either side. Given it was in a thoroughfare where people were walking either side of it, it wouldn't surprise me if someone had bumped into it and caught it with a shoulder or similar.
Don't think it was anything too serious  but I can see ODEON giving her a LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP to FREE screenings for the rest of her life. She deserves it.

There's a very clear surround effect when they go through the train tunnel near the beginning and a few throughout the film.0 -

Agree with you - an amazing film. Wasn't quite sure what to expect and hubby wasn't too keen on going but he's raving about it to everyone today! Best film I've seen for a long time.0 -

Presume you are talking about LION ?
The discussion was actually over the sound clarity, quality and volume level of the WHY HIM ? preview screening at a couple of Showcase cinemas before Xmas.
I can't say I particularly noticed the specific effect you mention.
This was in what is probably the smallest of the multi-screens at an Odeon that's been around for a long time. (And I was tucked into a rear corner and not centrally where I usually like to sit)
To be honest I may have been distracted by what I thought was a very poor VISUAL presentation of the film.
Talk about dark  the light levels were consistently very low and often it was a struggle to see the action that was taking place, especially when "concentrating" on digesting the subtitles.
I've heard of similar complaints many times, even from directors regards screenings of their own films that they've witnessed, where they've NOT been projected as intended and usually cited as a result of the demise of the "trained" projectionist that's been replaced by a button pusher who doesn't know half the setup changes that maybe needed between showing one film and the next.

I also went to see LION and thought it was a powerful film with stand-out acting from all three principals - Nicole Kidman (how long is it since we heard Nicole use her own Australian accent?), Dev Patel (very passable Australian accent) and Sunny Pawar.
Feel it's worth mentioning to MSE-ers keen to see something this weekend, that at least the first 45 minutes of the film is entirely in Hindi and Bengali, with subtitles. It matters not a jot to me - I watch the performances! - but I did notice a couple of people leave after the first few minutes, at the preview I went to. Some people just don't like reading subtitles.
Another mention: the poverty, deprivation and abuse shown is SO bad that some will find it deeply upsetting. Everyone has their weak point that makes them say 'I can't watch this' - just a warning that, if horrible things happening to children really gets to you, you won't find this a comfortable view.0 -

Re the Subtitles.... I have never seen anyone leave if the whole film is in French/Spanish/German so why here I can't ans. that. No one left in todays screening.
Without the spoiler I felt sick at one point as well enough to close my eyes so I think it must have been at this point some guys could not take it and left.0
