MY DDs school don't call the year 11 and 13 event prom and instead use the term ball, but it is the same as other schools prom. For year 11, they hold it in the school hall, but hire in a company to decorate it with a theme, have a red carpet with staff and parents taking photos and clapping those attending. We had to pay £25 for the event (hall decoration, photos, buffet, disco and soft drinks). We got DDs dress, shoes and clutch bag from one of the dress shops in Fonthill Road in London for about £80 in total. A friend who is a hairdresser did her hair and another friend did her makeup. My husband has a classic car so drove her and friends to prom in that. They also had a leavers day before exams, which was mass in the local church, photos and buffet fo which they all dressed up for (girls in dresses and heels, lads in suit and tie). They often then go on to an after ball party at someone's house for which they like to change into another outfit for.
DDs in year 13 now and going to a sixth form leavers ball this Friday in a golf club. For that it is slightly less formal as it is shorter Tops shop type dresses and heels and lads in suits. DD is having her hair done by a friend who is a hsirdresser and her make done for free at a makeup counter in Boots (as she works there on Saturdays she knows the staff). A lot of the lads have suits already from their Uni interviews and the sixth form dress code is suits, shirts and ties so they would have that. Again however they had a sixth form leavers day for which they need to dress up for as similar day with mass in the local church, photos, buffet, awards ceremony. One lad in their year has a huge house and is hosting an after ball party until 4am, but this time the same outfit will do!0 -
As children all finish at different dates, depending on exams when does a leaving prom get held? I had nothing when I left school and doubt I would have gone if there was.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

In DDs school they have an official Leavers day which is the day they leave school in effect and then they only come in to do exams. Leavers ball or prom is held after all the exams are over, usually in June.0 -

Probably the same reason we now have nursery children having 'graduations'0 -

I wasn't allowed to my school prom because i was caught trying to smuggle a bottle of vodka in. My HOY called my parents to come collect me. There was many heartbroken girls that nightThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

My son is having a prom FOR LEAVING PRIMARY SCHOOL.
He's just getting a smart shirt for it - that's it.
Some parents have hired the limo, spent £120 on a dress and have booked the hairdresser.
IT'S PRIMARY SCHOOL.
ARGH!!!!!!!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

My "prom" was a night out with a few of my close school friends at the end of 6th Form, we went for a meal in lovely restaurant. My DS is nearly 30 so 12 years ago he went for a suit he could go for interviews in and my DD 2 years later did the same. I have done some prom photography for family and friends and it has gone a bit mad. My DD is getting married soon and the dress shop have had Prom dress shows and they start at around £300 eek! The salon where I get my nails done is doing prom packages at around £50, You can't blame them for cashing in but I feel for the parents who don't have that kind of disposable income especially as it's all for one night.0

We weren't allowed a prom because we were a unruly lot, so we went and got drunk on a field and I believe there were a few fights and the police were called.... maybe that's why we weren't allowed a prom.Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0
