I never told them I was a sports coach though. They are acting on the statement of someone other than myself. In that case anyone could call up and make statements about anyone!

The earlier quote was more expensive.

The cheaper quote was without declaring the sports coaching.

That will look suspicious if they link the two quotes up.

Why was your brother ringing the Insurers on your behalf?

That would make them a teacher

Exactly. So why refuse to cover?

    A matter of semantics perhaps?

The sports coaching wasn't declared because I am not currently a sports coach though. No lies. I would say I had convictions because I may have some in the future...

He was calling because we are both on the policy and he was fishing around for the cheapest quote.

I'm playing devils advocate but your brother rings to get a quote with you as a sports coach. You then get a cheaper quote without declaring the sports coach.

Your brother then rings them and tells them you are a sports coach.

    Why would he do this?

He only called them once. He also told them about my current employment in the supermarket. Suppose he was trying to give them as much details as possible hoping to avoid a situtation like this. Irony much?

It's well worth making a complaint but bear in mind the Insurer and the Ombudsman may well find it hard to believe you're not a sports coach.

If you're solely coaching school children it may be worth describing yourself as a sports teacher in education

I intend to maintain that I am not a sports coach currently and the details provided were correct at the time and if my circumstances change I will notify them.

So its your policy? With your brother as an additional driver??
If so what was he doing phoning the insurer up at all???
Why did they not say he was not the policyholder and refer them back to you????

IMO there is a lot of this story we have not been told.

He called them with the intention of being the policy holder and have me as a name driver. We assumed it would be cheaper with him as the policy holder as he is older and has driven for more years. However, they suggested to him that it would be cheaper with me as the policy holder and took all the details off him. That is why he phoned up. No funny business.

Also that was a completely separate quote from the one we agreed upon. I got the later quote.
