Some good news at last. As I am a seafarer I can get a seafarers reduction on my Tax if I meet certain criteria in a tax year. I met those this year, and as a result I had some tax back
I've paid £1k into my rainy day fund and added an extra £550 onto my OP for this month, bringing it to £903.35, yay! I can't wait to see the new total after my payments go out on payday.

I finally made some headway with my box room. I just need to touch up the ceiling from where I wasn't careful enough with the green wall paint, and then paint the skirting and architrave. I'm going to my Mum's this weekend to fetch back my writing desk for the room :) I'm very excited at the prospect of a finished room.

    Hello all,

I hope you all haven't been washed away in the rain, it's more like Autumn than Summer at the moment.

I fetched the furniture back from my Mum's last weekend, and I also got two lovely chairs from my godparents. I'll use one in the dining room and the other upstairs. I also bought all my pictures back with me, I can't wait to hang a couple in the box room :)

I ordered some paint brushes for the skirting boards yesterday, hopefully they will be here later on today and I can get on with that over the weekend.

    Money wise:

£5.47 Tilly Tidied to my OP from my various accounts today.
Total OP For July £910.82 - This should hopefully take my mortgage just below the £106k mark, yay!

I've been a bit naughty with my spending this month, not kept a good enough eye on it and slipped here and there. I'm joining Messy Mare in her 'No unbudgeted Spend' August challenge, will be a great achievement to pull that off.

    Hope you are all well.

Hello all on this finally sunny day!

I just checked my mortgage after the payments went out this month and it's now down to £105,998.08  Slowly working towards my goal of 100k or under by September 2016.

Could possibly be an expensive day tomorrow, my car is having it's MOT. Fingers crossed it doesn't go over the £500 I have set aside, it can be a bit expensive sometimes. My friend did polish up the headlights for me, so hopefully they won't be an issue now.

Right better finally get a washing machine sorted as well!

    Hello Mrs Trelfa :)

I think that is some very sound advice. I saw a washing machine the other day that cost £1000, mainly because you could control it rom your smart phone, madness! I am going to go for a standard Bosch methinks.

Well....I have never washed up so much Tupperware in my life!! I like the batch cooking though, it's great to just have to heat something up when you come in and not start from scratch. My freezer is rammed now, so a good month or so of working my way through it. I am definitely eating a lot healthier this way as well :)

Oh, any simple ideas for batch cooking mince that aren't Chili or Cottage pie would be greatly received.I need to browse some cookery sites.

So glad that the batch cooking is working and eating healthier an added bonus. As for recepies I can think of spaghetti Bolognese, lasagne, beef burgers, cheesy mince natchoes off the top of my head.

Big congratulations on the tax rebate, that's a huge overpayments you have built up.

    Hello all,

Well my car came in at £445, still quite an eye watering amount! I do love that car though, and can't bring myself to splash out the 6-7k in one go on a new car.

It's been fairly expensive this month so far, although all expenses have been accounted for. There was my car, and then I finally decided on a new washing machine. I went for a mid range Bo$ch, so although it was fairly pricey at £399, it had the lowest electrical and water consumption figures which were important factors for me. The third expense is that my Victorian fireplace has gone on its jollys to London to be restored for use :D I'm really excited about this one, and has been in my plans since before I even bought the house. As a consequence my general savings/house funds are starting to dip and have reached their lowest ever at £12K, eeep.

I've opened a new savings account and have budgeted an extra £100 a month to go into this each month. This will hopefully cover things like insurance, line rental etc. each year. I always pay these yearly and realised I hadn't actually made any provision for them in my budget, so had just been raiding my savings.

A small amount of £9.96 to go towards this months OP so far :)

    Hello all,

I made an overpayment of £53.44 today, garnered mainly from Tilly Tidies and account interest. I normally transfer it to one account and pay all my OP from one month in a job lot, this time however I decided to just get it put onto the mortgage straight away. Stops any potential 'borrowing' from the OP stash.

I'm about to do battle with my home insurance, see if I can get that down from £300. Fingers crossed!

    Hi runders

With regards insurance, try cashback sites too. I just got £20 cashback on my contents insurance and reduced my premium by over 60% compared to my renewal.

    Hello all,

I've been AWOL from the forum lately but I have been keeping up with my MFW ideas.

I haven't changed my house insurance yet, but hopefully I can get that sorted this evening. From the quick look I had last week, it would seem I have overpaid to the tune of £100, so looking forward to bringing that down.

For the first time in god knows how long it looks like I will be under budget this month!!! If I give myself £50 for this week, then I could have an extra £400 to split between OP and my various accounts at the weekend which would be very exciting :) I also have £15 from the penny jar to add to my OP.

    Hope you are all well.
