    Hello all,

Well...my attempt to limit the damage was rather unsuccessful...I ended up having dinner out Friday night and then twice yesterday! Must try harder. I'm going to blame the bubbles we were drinking to celebrate...those little fizzy monsters!

I've spent a bit of money this morning as well, but that was on paint for the box room. I was hoping to have a good go at it today, but now It's miserable out it will take a bit of time for each coat to dry.

I start in the office tomorrow, it's going to be an absolute shock to the system, and I'll probably be running mostly on coffee for the first week or two. Fingers crossed I enjoy it though, otherwise it will be a long and miserable 6 months.

Hope you all don't get washed away in the rain!

Morning Runders! It's throwing it down here too. Looks like your overpayments are making a big difference! I hope you don't find the office work too bad, it helps to be outside on all your breaks (some people where I work don't go outside for the whole day! I'll even sit in my car if it's raining, just to be somewhere a bit brighter) I'll be sat at my desk at 6.45 tomorrow so I'll send some good office karma your way :)

    Hi MessyMare,

At your desk at 6:45.....ouch! Saying that, my alarm is set for 6am as I was too busy painting to do anything else this evening. I'm not sure painting rooms is my calling in life. Thanks for the office Karma, hopefully it finds me!

    Hiya Rudders

Your job sounds really interesting! Are you back for 6 months then off again? Must be hard not to go mad catching up with everyone when you are back.

How are the ebay sales going? Can relate the the unpacked boxes, we tried to have a good clear through our room of boxes, but some how everything seems to end up back in the loft :D did manage to get rid of some bits (why do people collect programmes? OH seems to have an obsession).

    Hi Cel :)

I'm in the office on a secondment for the next 6 months, I have to admit that I am missing the sea life already! Hopefully I'll get a bit more used to it, I just feel like I'm on a grind stone at the moment.

Haha, your OH and I seem to have the same problem. I finally had the courage to recycle all my theatre programs. I'm going to stop buying them as I realised there was at least £70 quids worth there.

Hope you are enjoying the lovely day x

    Hello all!

Bit of a break from me as I try to adjust to the new way of life for the next 6 months. If anyone has any tips for keeping your energy levels up in the evening I'd appreciate them. So far in the evenings, I've just sat on the sofa staring at nothing and thinking about all the stuff I should be doing. It's mad, I work 12 hour very physical shifts offshore, and I don't feel like this, I guess the fact that I am always outside in the breeze helps.

On the money saving front., I made £59.59 from ebay sales and I've also had a £47 refund from AirBnB, so I already have £106.59 to OP this month :) I've a few more bit n pieces to put on ebay as well, so fingers crossed they sell as well as the last lot did.

I've got some expensive weekends coming up, so trying to be frugal in the week. I wasn't great this week gone, so need to up my game for the coming ones.

Hope you are all doing well.

  • Hi Runders

I find the best way to keep going in the evening is to not sit down! As soon as you sit in front of the TV that's it so if you want to get anything done, do it straight away.

Or have a definite plan. For example if I plan my evening to include going to the gym at 8pm it seems to stick, whereas if I keep it quite vague, 'Oh I might go to the gym tonight' it's less likely to happen.

Not sure why that works, a bit of a psychological trick I guess. But it's definitely about keeping moving for me.

    Hi

    reconcile your bank account daily
account for everything you have withdrawn on main account (internet purchases, pay at pump (everything w/o receipt) all DD/SO,ALL Credit card payments (so you are accounting for the cash when spent not panicking when the statement arrives), cheques, accruals for annualised 1/2 and 1/4 ly bills etc

Have a clear goal to aim for, write it down, ensure it Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and time-bound.

Have a measuring stick for this goal (want to be mortgage free= picture house divided by blocks representing outstanding mtge, and colour them I when chunk paid off )

Food ( 6 of us £90 p/week--£390pm) spend day scratch cooking & freeze for week. Don't buy brands. Freeze milk bread saves emergency rush to shop and being enticed ! List and stock check kitchen before you go to food shop. Take lunches to work.

Overspend will be £1 at a time, drip drip drip drip. Stop the drips, Sky, lotto, fags, coffees, mags, booze etc etc (get the drift)

    Great luck !
Have a spike to put receipts on and code them once you have charged them against running balance.
Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.
  • Hi runders, sorry for not stopping by recently.

It looks like your doing brilliant with all of your eBay sales etc. There will be a cracking overpayments.

    HI enjoyyourshoes,

Thanks for all the great advice, the above quote especially resonated with me. I added up that i spent about £30 quid last week alone in those kind of spends. Real eye opener. I'm going to take my own coffee with me to work and my little coffee cup,so much cheaper than buying one.

    Thanks again
