On medicine, one thing I can't understand is the amount of people that, in my view, waste money on Nurofen. IMO, as far as I am concerned, it's absolutely and completely identical to the active ingredient Ibuprofen and that ingredient is the only one really to be concerned about. Nonetheless, if something is in liquid form and has other ingredients, perhaps, in some cases, "...[t]here's also some evidence that liquid capsules are absorbed marginally faster because the tablet doesn't have to break down. But essentially, there's little difference between the regular and fast-absorbing products." However, in any case, even if a product claims to be faster absorbing, that's not clinically relevant and therefore I will be having no truck of any such claims: they may well be true but are, IMO, completely irrelevant (so are not going to get me to pay pounds and pounds more for some branded product:money:).

Moving from the US now to Australia, so bear that in mind and of course I don't believe everything I read on the internet:
    https://www.choice.com.au/health-and-body/medicines-and-supplements/prescription-medicines/articles/pain-relief-drugs-panadol-and-nurofen

I found this a week or so ago and thought about posting it and mentioning what I see as the complete waste of money that people spend on Nurofen. In my view, always going for the generic version and never for a brand medicine is one of the best ways of saving a lot of money! I cannot understand why anyone would ever buy any branded name whose active ingredient is completely identical and the same effect and has to be so by law, but, bizarrely, it seems maybe even a majority of people go for the brand option, which they see advertised on television, due to believing, completely wrongly as usual, that if something is more expensive, it's worth pay for since it is more effective (when this is, in my view, emphatically and completely *not* the case as the active ingredient has to be identical). However, I am out of touch with the psyche of the mainstream, non-Asperger's population - and, indeed, it seems the point is that people, who are generally uninformed, are influenced by advertising and by emotional persuasion. Unbelievably (to me) - although it ought to be no surprise in the light of that - people commonly believe that high priced branded medicines are therefore, for that reason, more effective, safer and better - when, in truth, none of these things are true as the active ingredient/s have to be the same as in a way cheaper, generic version.

It is this "targeted relief from pain" that also seems to be wrong or maybe give many people the wrong impression. Things such as "Nurofen" (or other brand name) "Back Pain", charged at an even higher cost than "standard" Nurofen, when, in fact, IMO, ibuprofen, the active ingredient cannot target pain in one specific area of the body at all but targets pain wherever it finds it in the body. Again, though, people undoubtedly pay more, thinking of back pain relief. Yet again, I stick with plain cheapest Ibuprofen throughout!:money:

It's absolutely identical (IMO). I saw the "targeted relief from pain" thing across the shelving - I'd never even looked at that or seen it before until after I'd read the article at the above link - in a well-known supermarket last week. Product displays, of course, are not covered by the Advertising Standards Authority and therefore do not have to comply with Advertising Code rules unless they advertise a sales promotion or are featured in an advert (which is not the case on this occasion of a point of sale display such as this). Instead, they probably fall to legal enforcement and a long and cumbersome process of legal argument that local trading standards, especially in times like this, cannot afford or afford to risk; I suspect they don't quite fall within what used to be trade descriptions legislation or require exactly the same substantiation unlike advertising code claims do.

So, you can continue to see lots of claims made on product displays and not necessarily know that they are fully supported, instead it seems many people without question simply believe them, especially as it's something (like "targeted pain relief") which is outside of the general person's expertise. Perhaps it is a bit like we do also see lots of things, and various price claims, in supermarkets that seem to change by the week, sometimes giving a higher price than has applied for the longest and can almost say what they want, whether it's correct or not, and we experts on here that watch them closely (unlike the average consumer) know how poor some "deals" are, but seem not subject to trading standards enforcement as people either don't complain (perhaps because, crucially, they are unaware of the true situation about some pricing and therefore are unaware that they can complain - as the complaint would be about something of which they are unaware so, naturally, they cannot complain) or the price displays are so transient and the offers shortlived that they have been removed by the time any trading standards officer would ever be able to visit a store to see them.
