Well I just shut my seller account. I understand the need to verify details, particular for business accounts, but this was a step too far for me. I just want to sell the odd book or CD which has become worthless anyway as there is always a race to the bottom on those kinds of items with bots that big business uses (they can use volume discounts on p&p to still turn a profit). Not sure why Amazon couldn't have made a rule like if you turnover more that £1000 a year you have to provide more details.

It may have been random or that they had a criteria and we just don't know it. Not everyone asked to verify their account has to upload documents. I had to do something to verify it (couple of clicks), but not that. So they're not asking everyone to do that step.

For others, before closing your account it's worth starting the process as they may not want that step, in which case it's very quick and simple with no extra personal information given.

I'm not sure the big book and CD sellers are actually making a profit, the margins they make must be low single digit at best.

Some of the bigger sellers use it to promote their own websites, so selling on Amazon is the equivalent to advertising.

Did you see that news article quoted on here about the proportion of eBay stock being dumped at losses due to the high turnover rate of sellers entering and failing in the market place?

Ironically, there some Job Centre in the Midlands somewhere recommending people become eBay sellers to get off benefits.

I suspect that Amazon, like eBay, actually want to discourage the more casual sellers who don't make much money for them.

The Job centre giving bad advice and trying to get people off the system the easiest way possible? Shocking lol.

Too many people assume it is a quick and easy way to make money without the JC saying it. The stories of how someone is now making loads from ebay tend to be far more popular than the bad stories though which doesn't help.

I've been going to trade auctions since I was a kid. Every wave of recession brought out a few people who came to an auction with a pocketful of redundancy, pay over the odds for everything and never to be seen again. The only one I ever remember making a go of it was a chap who used to be a bank manager, quite canny he was.

It's so much worse now with every Herbert and Harriet thinking they can make a few quid. Half the time they don't even bother trying to source it beyond the high street.

I've had to verify for Amazon in the past, which was easy, just like with paypal. This though is something completely different and they seem to be doing sellers in batches a few months apart.

I've now tried uploading a different bank statement , if they don't accept this one I'm not sure what else I can try.

It went to a screen about uploading documents and I thought I'd have to upload them. I was surprised when I did the first part and it was done as I expected to have to do the next part and upload ID.

So although I did just basically have to do a quick and easy verifying thing it goes to the same thing as those who have had to upload documents because it says all about it and having to upload them.
