I didnt cash my cheque. was very suspicious. today received a letter
Dear ...........
Pay in the cheque we sent you.
"In 27/05/15 we wrote to you about a refund to your account ending **** and we enclosed a cheque for the amount of your refund.
We;ve noticed that you have not banked your cheque. so this is to remind you to pay in your refund. If you have paid it in in the last 3 days please ignore this letter.
If you have any questions about your refund payment please contact us on the number at the top of this letter."
The wording of the letter is very odd. Since when have banks been so caring about money THEY owe? Something is not right. Anyone else get a letter?0 -
I got a letter and a cheque cashed it in, this alerted me to some ppi claims with bos, and i ended up getting £12k back, im happy with them and their service.0

I received the same letter on 6th August, I didn't have a clue what they was talking about I've never had a bank account ending with them 4 digits so I went to my bank on the 7th and they said the letter looked real, I asked them to look up if I ever had a bank account ending with the 4 digits and it came back no, I was then advised to ring bos which I did and they told me it was defiantly for me because I did think it might of been my ex mother in laws (same initials) they then gave me another full account number which yet again no clue, they told me I must of got a loan or something from them, I asked if my ex husbands name was on this account as well which the reply was no. I've never got a loan with them or anything and I kept telling them I don't know what they are talking about so now I've to wait up to 4wks for them to ring me back with more information I'm not cashing the cheque till I've got answers. Seems all very odd to me and it has crossed my mind identity theft???0

How could it be indentity theft when i got paid £12000 in ppi from them on old bos loans , the account number they gave me matched up exactly with previous loans i took out with capital bank nws bank and Bos, im still convinced the data they will provide you will be true.
Have you never had any loans ever?0 -
Hi,
I've received the same reminder letter as Hulmanicat. I do find it strange that they are sending reminders to cash the cheque, it's most unusual behaviour for a bank and makes me even more suspicious of their motives for issuing a refund in the first place!
The letter I received looks as fake as the original it's very poor quality paper and printing. The subject head is also pretty abrupt as it states in bold;
Pay-in the cheque we sent you.0 -
Hi
I have also had a letter reminding me to PAY-IN THE CHEQUE WE SENT YOU
it does seem odd that they are sending out reminder letters which makes me even more suspicious. I have never had an account or a loan or anything with BOS. Still not cashing it in, this whole thing smells fishy to me, if its my loss then so be it.0 -
I have the paperwork that backs up my refund, did you have any loans with any other companies as Bos took over capital bank and nws banks in chester.0

Bos got back in touch and got a little bit further to finding out what they are talking about they have give me the account number and amount I meant to have borrowed going to go back to my bank and ask them to chase this account up for me as I've no idea about it the person I spoke to seemed as baffled as me when I was stating I ain't got a clue and have confirmed it could be identity theft.0

This cannot be identity theft, how can bank of scotland send me the refund compensation cheque of £50 and some compensation which tied up to one of my loan numbers, having checked my paperwork in an old briefcase, this alerted me to single premium ppi on credit agreement, on that and 3 other loans and i received £12000 back.0

It might not be identity theft for you if you have all paperwork to back you up but when there is nothing to state what they is saying is true because you haven't a clue what they are talking about then yes it could be identity theft, identity theft isn't that hard to do and doesn't happen to everybody.0
