Thank you, I stand corrected and am in no doubt that you are absolutely right ..but getting back to the issue of whether these cheques are genuine.. my latest reply from @AskBankOfScot includes "I can understand why this could be confusing" So somewhere down this long convoluted chain of banking organisations BOS and NatWest are in some way intertwined.

It seems like a fairly non-committal answer to me, it "seems" genuine.

    It's a shame they can't give a definitive answer.

I agree but a refund is a refund in the end I ddnt kmow I was due it, so I got the cheque in bank pretty smartish and it cleared.
  • The bit that gets me is that it says they have credited my account with a refund and then enclose a check for compensation, the fact is I don't have said bank account anymore. Has anyone still got the bank account stated on your own letter and has that been credited?

I didnt have an open bank account with thrm so i got refund and compensation plus interest in a cheque.
  • I received exactly the same letter today around about the time the Statue of Limitation Act 1980 kicks in. As I have not been in contact with these people for approx 7 years I'm not going to cash a cheque that may be construed as "making contact" or admission to a contractual agreement. I will pop back to see how you all fair but seems a bit fishy for me. Incidentally my debt is off my credit file but these institutions have very long arms.

The only update i have is I had a phone call from Halifax/BOS yesterday asking questions about one of my 4 ppi cliams with them, like i said before the compensation of the £50 refund i had earlier in a cheque started this for me. I believe they are genuine.
  • Hiya this bit from you got me thinking " received exactly the same letter today around about the time the Statue of Limitation Act 1980 kicks in."

What is the act and what happens, is it some sort of trick
    Thx in advance
