Marriage Allowance

Just a quick update. I've just spoken to HMRC and they confirmed (as the posters had suggested) that the £98 was a one off. And back dated for the last year, which I thought was a bit cheeky ...
However from now on, I'll be paying approx £6 a month in tax, and my husband will be paying approx £18 less a month in tax, so we're around £144 a year better off (plus the £212 rebate). So thanks all for your advice, it was much appreciated.:T0 -
Just to say. Thank you.
I have applied and got the refund
Backdated 2015-2016.
Income Tax transferred to my Husband.
Tax code now changed from L to M.
Worth applying for.0 -
Hi,
I applied for the marriage tax allowance and I have just received my potential new tax code for 2016/17. It looks like I am now going to be paying tax. They have my personal allowance as £11000, Less transfer allowance of £1100, Less Underpayment Restriction £299? Now leaving me with a tax free allowance of £9601. Is it still worth me continuing with this as I will be approximately £1000 over the new tax free allowance. I work in the public sector in Scotland.
Thanks0 -

What you have posted is perfectly normal for the marriage allowance with the exception of the underpayment restriction which suggest you owe tax of approx £60 (£299 x 20%).
Can you confirm your income?0 -

Hello.
I followed Martin's advice and followed through to do this marriage tax. However Hubby didn't get anything in his wage slip this month, as far as I was aware we should of had something...?
Any advice on why?
We got in before payroll cut off.
I will call gov.co.uk but they are closed weekends!
Thanks for any advice

It takes a while for the new tax code notification to be raised and sent to your payroll department. Count weeks not days.0

. . . Hubby didn't get anything in his wage slip this month, as far as I was aware we should of had something...?
It is possible that HMRC was not able to send out the notifications in time to apply to this tax year, in which case either they will send him a cheque for any overpaid tax or they will adjust his tax code for next year to recoup the overpayment.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

They aren't closed on a Saturday (although will be now as close at 4).
Another poster stated they can only change tax codes for 2015/16 until mid March so will depend on when you applied.0
