  • Thank you for your advice and even though my friend was incorrect in that the increased tax allowance is not for previous years, we have applied and been successful for this tax year (and subsequent ones for many years until change) so the drinks will be on me. Thanks again, the forum is a fantastic facility, one which I will be using again and recommending it to my friends. Cheers

No refund. You get an improved tax code.

Revised tax code could result in a refund, depending on the overall tax position for this year, as they will have been paying excess tax for approx 10 months now.

Assuming I understand you correctly, yes - they will be unaffected.

You are correct, TC are unaffected as they are based on taxable income, not net income.
  • Thanks Darksparkle . I will be doing this over the weekend then !
  • My gross salary makes me a higher rate tax payer but I am paying a lump sum into my pension to make my net income to be a 20% tax payer am I eligible for the marriage allowance

    Thanks
  • Hi everyone,
My husband and I are married according to Islam. Does anyone know if we still qualify to apply for MA? Hubby doesn't work and the job centre and council count us as a couple as if we were married when making calculations to say we can't get any help or benefits!

    Where did you get married?

If you got married in the UK 'according to Islam', was this followed by a civil marriage? If it wasn't then the marriage is not recognised legally in the UK.

Have a read of this link:

As regards benefits it is altogether a different matter as you are viewed as living together as man and wife and therefore treated as a couple for benefit purposes.
