I have 2 devices that especially need a Windows laptop to support them via USB, a Tomtom 1005 satnav and a Q2 internet radio. On W7, via XP mode I'm able to manage them.

Now it seems W10 does not have an XP mode. Online advice is, use W10's built in Hyper-V feature to run XP mode. BUT you need a valid XP license to do so. I'd love to be contradicted on this so please can someone do so and say how?

PS I'm talking full XP mode here, had to download and install it, it's free from MS, not XP Compatibility mode which does exist on 10.

Using the My Drive Connect software?

I have installed Windows 10 and must have been quite lucky so far after reading some of the problems on here.
My Samsung R710 laptop is working fine, as is my TomTom Go Live 950.
My old Samsung 1510 laser printer is also working fine, that is connected via a TP-Link TD-W8980 router which has replaced my BTHH 5.
Had a small issue with Outlook 2007 but that was fixed after a quick search on Google.
Even Microsoft Money 2005 is working ok.

Oracle have already won it's if Goggle manage to overturn it in the Supreme Court. It will be extremely bad for everyone if they don't.

Really? The Tomtom 1005 was released around 2010, 2 years after Windows XP was withdrawn.

Yes really, my W7 laptop would not recognise the 1005 till I installed XP mode.

Still no answer from MS to my question concerning whether there will be any licencing problems if I decide to revert to Win 8 (or Win 7) - using my original OS software, after, say 6 months - do you think that they are waiting until the month is up before deciding ?

Do you expect Microsoft to reply, was it via their Website or via eMail or real mail? You are very lucky to get replies on this site on the same day, on TalkTalk wait a day or two, multiply the size of the three then you may get lucky and a get a reply before Windows 11 comes out(speculation of course I mean 10.296.8899.7675.08.2025)

    OK I have a reply
The Windows licence does stand - so if we want to reinstate a previous installation, some months down the line - we are able to do so....................
