Windows 10

You could always manually download it from here if you can't wait.
I downloaded the Win 10 iso and burned it to a disc but, as I found out the hard way, it seems to be impossible to activate it without upgrading using the download first to get the key.
Unless somebody knows any different?0 -

Just did a clean install of Windows 7 onto a computer (for which it had a licence) and then upgraded it to 10 using this method. Win 10 now shows as activated.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Similarly, any time I used a disk or USB stick to perform an UPGRADE, running from within Windows, or booting from the disk or stick, I was asked for a key (no option to skip). 3 installations, and they all worked fine doing the download through Windows update0 -
I've upgraded a couple of computers by:
- downloading the ISO
- Opening the ISO file/ using the USB stick I'd copied it to
- Running Setup.exe from there, and select the option to Upgrade (I can't remember if it even asks you this).
The only thing I've done which isn't standard is to go to the Media Creation website and then set my browser to pretend to be an iPad running Safari (in IE11 I think it's F12 function key then emulation). In that mode it offers you a combination of both Home and Pro versions in a single ISO for 32 bit or a single ISO for 64 bit. I had to upgrade both Home and Pro so it saved me some bandwidth.
However I don't think that makes any difference, although if you do download an ISO which is specific to Home or Pro, you have to download the right version for your qualifying Windows 7/8 edition, or it asks for a product key.0 -
I think my problem was that I was doing a clean install using the iso.0

I have never had much luck with "System Restore" on any version of Windows and guess what ?
I have just tried Restoring my Win 10 laptop and it failed ....
It hung for a good 10 minutes - before freezing then telling me "Unable to restore system" No reason given !!0 -
Haven't tried a system restore on my Win 10. But when it was running Win 7 before, system restore failed repeatedly. Eventually found it worked if I disabled the Windows Firewall and Real-Time protection in Security Essentials (which was running on that machine). System restore then worked, although I had to switch the firewall and Security Essentials back on manually, even though they were enabled at the time the restore image was made...
Edit:
Just tried a system restore on that same machine and it worked without me disabling Defender or Firewall.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. This is to try to get a utility on my laptop restored - I get an error message "BIOS Reporting failed - GetchargelcStatus returns false" - this is the USB charging port that worked to start with on Win 10 - but a update has killed it !!0
