More and more "mainstream apps" have Linux versions or equivalents. Don't get me wrong, I cut my teeth on the first IBM PCs with MS-DOS, BASIC, VisiCalc and EasyWriter, MS had a stranglehold on industry, but they're losing customers left right and centre...I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Along with mainstream viruses and malwareScience isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Apart from people on a few online forums, Linux might as well be Martian. I don't know anyone who uses it and I don't know anyone who knows anyone who uses it.
So it's hardly taking MS customers 'left right and centre'. The vast majority of users who are using W10 seem to be happy with it.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Linux based OS's are the most installed in the history of computing, it's a Linux world old chap.

PS you're in danger of repeating yourselfThat maybe so, but I still don't know anyone that uses it. Installed, is not used, as someone said about Windows not so long back..
I know people that use all the other OS's out there, which tells me that, linux can't be that popular in these here hills....
As I don't use it, I don't comment on how good or bad it is and I've not really been in a position where I felt the need to change. But, if it butters someone's toast then all power to them...
If I do repeat myself, it'll be worth hearing twice, so I shan't fear it..:p;)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Wow! Loads of people use GNU/Linux OSes -- including me right now.
It's kinda funny -- apart from people on a few forums, I don't know anyone who uses Windows 10.
Linux is great if you're even slightly interested in computing. You can make it do anything! Once you learn to tame it, the idea of going back to Windows is rather unappealing.
But, despite all its flaws, privacy holes and drawbacks, Windows is quick and easy for people who don't care how their computer works as long as it gets stuff done, which is probably >90% of home users.
The vast majority of web servers run GNU/Linux, as well as many embedded devices (routers, mobile phones, etc.).0 -
