Garage charge for rear brakes?

I do understand the simple concept of margin. One doesn't have to be a graduate at the big 4 to understand this. What I would prefer however is that the garage just be honest and over charge rather than using the VAT as an excuse to do so, but it wouldn't make a difference.
What have they done that's dishonest?0 -

I don't think you have any idea about VAT either.0 -
Have you ever used a garage before? They never include VAT in the price breakdown. Chances are your alternative supplier hasn't included the VAT either and both items are about the same price.0

Well [STRIKE]darkmatter[/STRIKE] he used one to do an oil change a couple of months ago, but now claims to change his own oil every 5/6 months. So who knows, after all he's a proven liar.0 -
You'll find that most parts from eBay are actually from the likes of GSF Car Parts and Euro Car Parts anyway. Each to their own I guess, but the only time I'd make sure I buy Bosch parts etc other than main dealer parts is if it's an electrical component. At the end of the day you just have to ask yourself what the purpose of the part you're buying is, and whether you really need to be that careful. You'd be quite rightly picky depending on how you you expect a part to last. For example something such as a wheel cylinder or brake calliper you'd obviously be careful (I wouldn't for reasons I explained earlier, but I can appreciate why one would be cautious!). However if you're buying an air filter, why the need to be careful as long as it fits? After all it's only a cardboard filament to all intents and purposes! You could get a part for half the cost of dealer parts that work just as well. Euros and GSF sell brands you've never heard of half the time, as well as branded ones for the same car and the price difference is often a lot!if i buy oem from a main dealers then i kno the brake parts are genuine and up to the job
a lot of the stuff on e bay are fakes and you have no idea what you are buying
I agree that brembo, AP/lockheed, and bosch parts are as good as oem but i would have to buy them from a reputable and known source and i would not buy them online ever0
