I agree. I hate it too. (I'm disabled myself)

What about calling it something simple like Disability, Help and Support.
[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

I have severe COPD and I most definitely have extra costs - heating 24/7 , extra fuel for car because I can no longer walk the 50 yards to the shop , ready meals because I can no longer cook - the list goes on and on.

Fortunately, my husband has me to look after him and I don't charge! It would be different if he lived alone as you do and needed someone to do shopping and cooking for him.

Also, we never have the heating on that much as neither of us feel that it's healthy.

Do you have a wheeled cart for your oxygen as this can make it much easier to get out and about?

Another example of disability not giving rise to extra costs.

Sounds good. hopefully a name like that will put off the Billy goat trolls that enjoy taunting this disabled :(

If you qualified for PIP you wouldn't be saying all of this. Truth is, you want to have your cake and eat it.

I would have qualified without doubt if I had thought more about how I filled in the form. I would also have qualified if I had answered the questions and had a conversation with the assessor as she wanted me to. I would have qualified if I had bothered to go searching for backing evidence to support my claim.

So not at all about eating my cake , I wanted a full assessment to be carried out on me in a fit and proper way, that the DWP follow through with what is required of them to obtain evidence for me.
I would have qualified if I had bothered to apply for a MR/appeal.

I simply left the DWP to do their job and not expect me to do it for them.

Being over 65 now, I am contemplating claiming Attendance Allowance, and if I do I expect the DWP to carry out their duties as defined in their handbook.

Not on oxygen - apparently not suitable for my particular type of COPD.
Live in a very old damp house so if the heating is off for any length of time it feels very cold and nasty and of course not being very mobile does not help :(
BTW I do have a husband who is worse than useless at helping in any way. I don't know if he is trying to pretend that I do not have a problem or what but he is definitely not inclined to give me any assistance whatsoever - e.g. I have to plead with him to collect my prescriptions from the doctor's which is only a matter of 200 yds away as I would otherwise have to take the car out again.
Your husband is lucky to have you for practical help and support.

So, really, you don't have any extra expenses, you just need a new husband.:)

Not back on that topic again?

It would be quite helpful that instead of just saying that, maybe people could give a breakdown on what these extra costs are. To me they are quite mythical. I had DLA HRM & MRC for 19 years and have to admit that I would be hard pushed to account for what those extra costs were on current rates of £110 a week.

New to Pip, I have to say it largely supplements my lower earnings and entitles me to other benefits and concessions. These first six months and 11 months backpay got me back on the road and has seen various labour saving devices and items specifically for my comfort enter the house. It's hard to obtain actual physical aid for my needs - I never know when I'm going to need it!
