I am fed up. Work is so busy and I have no idea what I'm doing. Been attempting something for days and it's not worked so asked on a technical forum and was made to feel like an idiot. I feel hopeless and like I want to make an actual blanket fort and never come out because clearly, I'm an idiot.

ETA: I should change my name to crappy codemonkey.

Code, last year, when I hadn't been frequenting the forum for long, (I was no longer a newby, but hadn't made many posta), I asked a question on one of the tech threads.
I can't remember what the question was, just that it was something I really wanted to know how to do.

Someone replied in this manner...." Well, it's such-and-such, obviously!"
    I found that somewhat upsetting.
My reply was that it hadn't been obvious to me, which was why I had asked the question.
Interestingly, a very short while later, he deleted his post.

(A couple of other people gave me some useful information.)

What do you do to cope with your migraines Melly and Dragonette?
I get them quite regularly, usually triggered by points of light. We've had to change most of the light fittings in the house, and I once had to leave a job due to the florescent lighting.
The doctor gave me tablets to take when I feel one coming on, but they start too quickly for the tablets to have any preventative effect.
Lying down in the dark doesnt with for me as the room spins and I get very sick.
I do wonder if they are hormonal too as haven't had half as many these past few months.

Escapee is learning the jive tonight, vigorously. I half wondered if it was time earlier but I think it is just wishful thinking!

WaS, it sounds like you are doing all the right things. You can get through this, you know what you are doing.
  • With migraines, a dark room helps me. Sometimes with sunglasses! Lying down make me feel sick too, so I usually stay sitting up. I find I sway slightly to stop it feeling like the room is spinning.

I don't get them often enough to be much help, sorry. A very quiet radio or something to listen to sometimes helps as it stops any other noises from being so jarring. Emmm, if I think of anything else I'll post in the morning :)

Nn all, special soothing hugs to all who need them x

    The regular repost.....
    Pyxis wrote: »
The thread etiquette will be reposted every ten or so pages.
    ........:starmod:......................................................................:starmod:.....................
Here is the suggested THREAD ETIQUETTE. By following this etiquette, all posters, whether new or existing, will feel safe, unpressured and respected..

    - This is a thread for support. We have discovered some good friends on here, but we promise always to welcome and include new people, and not to be cliquey.

    - People may make suggestions to help each other, and might even ask if the suggestions were helpful or have been carried out, but we'll really try not to nag each other or put too much pressure on.

    - The normal board rules about sexism, racism, homophobia etc. apply, but if we are careful we should be able to discuss almost anything without breaching board rules - so far we have discussed subjects ranging from child abuse to incontinence!

-If someone thinks that too much pressure is being applied, they can post the trigger word PENGUIN and flag up the fact that they believe there's a potential for someone feeling too nagged to do something. ANYONE could post PENGUIN if they felt there was a danger that suggestions were being enforced too much.

Similarly, if they want to discuss something that might be a trigger for some people, then posting PENGUIN would be a warning that what follows in the whiteout might be a trigger.

    - So, if you think something might be a PENGUIN, please post something like the green bit which follows.

"Possible penguin about.........(type of trigger)" The trigger might be:- child abuse, marital abuse/violence, paranoia, stalkers, death, etc.

Then, when you post, repost the word PENGUIN above the discussion. Then post the penguiny bit in white! And the phrase END OF PENGUIN when you have finished.

It will look like this. You will be able to see the white text if you highlight it or if you quote it, (so please don't 'quote' a post containing a penguin onto the thread!)
    (Harmless example follows here):-
    PENGUIN

This is a penguin. A nasty, crotch biting penguin (CBP).
It isn't really! So you can look
    . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozGTv0hxhpc[/url]

    END OF PENGUIN

(NB on a tenth-page repost of the etiquette, you can see these penguiny words because they are white against the green 'quote' background. On a normal post, they will be white against white, and so won't be seen on the thread.)

IMPORTANT: It has been ascertained that some posters to this thread have found that there are certain subjects which act as triggers, precipitating a worsening of their condition.
To protect these posters, you are respectfully requested NOT to discuss these subjects on this thread:-

Religion. (Please note: it is recognised that everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and we respect those beliefs. It is only because of the fact that religion does act as a trigger for some posters, that we exclude it from discussion.)
N.B. Please don't even mention the name of the religion.

The afterlife. The reason for this is explained in this thread by one poster, and there will be others for whom this is a trigger.

We ask and thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

    .........:starmod:.....................................................................:starmod:................

!!!******It should be pointed out that if anyone is feeling very distressed or close to a crisis, they do not have to worry about what they are posting, or whether it is a penguin for someone else or not. In a crisis situation, just post! We wouldn't want anyone to feel that they couldn't ask for help in case it's a penguin! The penguin thing only applies to a general discussion situation.******

    - More suggestions please.............We stress that we are suggesting that we AGREE some Thread Etiquette to HELP people who might feel anxious about posting, we are not trying to IMPOSE rules, just relating this to facilitating groups, so that people feel safe and able to participate as fully as they can.

Aw, Happy birthday, MR3! I am so glad that you joined the thread when you did so that we could all wish you a lovely day! I hope the tiredness abates and you have a wonderful time!

    You made me giggle, SDW!

In his amusing way, WaSp made me feel a bit better about the whole welfare situation. He asked "What are you going to do for a job exactly? You would be fired after a morning! You couldn't even make a cup of coffee for the boss without sticking your hand in a kettle of water and ending up at A&E nevermind peering out at everyone from under a blanket!" There is truth in that actually even though it makes me sound terrible. He followed that up with reminding me that I think that I am 'normal' because it is my day to day life, but I am not 'normal and am in fact, a fruit basket!' Ok, he could have put it a bit more PC, but I get his point and it made me giggle quite a lot. Then I threw things at him, soft things. That probably sounds bad but we joke about my mental health all of the time, if we didn't we would be (even more) insane after 20 years.

I am ok, I suppose. The sleepies have gone which is a good thing as it means my thyroid my stabilising. What really pee's me off though? The intrusive thoughts, the nightmares and me waking WaSp up crying in my sleep are back. As soon as the sleepies are dealt with I am back into psychosis. I know it has to be this way but at times it's really disheartening, it was actually pleasant sleeping a lot and just passing out without feeling awful first, even if it was caused by an imbalance. I am not unwell by my standards by any means, it is business as usual. It's just that this can be really depressing after getting a break from it. I either sleep for 16 hours a day and feel better mentally when I am awake or there is this, plus it is always harder to adjust again after I have a break from it. I shall stop whining and get on with it.
