I'm very happy about your little factoid about nuts Georgie; I've been eating them instead of crisps recently :)

I think a portion is about 7 nuts.

And its the good type of fat in them. I have changed back to butter spread. I know it has oil in it better than those margarines.

Fat is not the enemy as long as it is good fat such as butter, cream, full fat dairy (OMG almost put diary then LOL):rotfl:

Its sugar thats the baddie not fat. Height and weight charts were created in 1943 in america by life insurance company. Interesting article here

I don't think anything is the baddie. First it was fat, then carbs and now sugar is the enemy. All nonsense. Everything in moderation. It's just moderation that is the problem for me.

    Your bakeoff sounds fun Georgie.

Baddie is not the right word. But crappy fat and sugar are hidden in everything that is processed.

The best way to eat is the least amount of processed foods as possible. Nothing wrong with the odd packet of sweets or a piece of cake. The problem is its the norm now to have everyday.

Things like cakes, sweets, biscuits, fizzy drinks, crisps etc were all treat foods. Such as parties or the odd occasion my dad took us out the pub one evening. We would have a lemonade and packet of crisps or cheese straws. Anyone remember you could by them in the pub? I don't like cheese but a cheese straw yummy.

Also I am guilty of this have a skewed sense of portion size. A portion of meat should the size of a deck of cards. And if my plate is not full up I fill I am being robbed LOL!!! A tube of pringles or a 150g packet of crisps I can neck down easily.

I have lovely set of crockery but the plates are big. Need to get some smaller plates as that has not helped with portion sizes.

Boooo, I was going to have crisps and chocolate for lunch (its what escapee wanted!) but decided to be good and put pasta, pesto sauce and tomatoes on to cook. Decided to catch up on this thread whilst it was cooking, and then smothered it in cheese!!
I blame you lot for your food talk!

Took Little Sod for a walk in the park. He found a little boarder terrier called Ruby and they spent ages charging round in circles. It took a little while to catch Ruby again as she was having a whale of a time chasing round! It looked very comical as she was so tiny, but they loved it! He is now snoozing on the sofa. Maybe I will get some peace this afternoon.

Me too. Almonds, Brazils and if I want that salty taste that I'm missing from not having crisps, then I have a small dish of salted peanuts.

I watched two of those food programmes with that Dr Michael Mosley on and it was on them.

Oh and as for Bake Off contests at work, we do a hardcore one over 14 weeks! It is only every other week, so 7 bakes and we're in teams so you only actually have to do somewhere between 2-3 each depending on team size, but it's still pretty tough going! We make sure that there are different judging categories for look and taste so the 'looks pretty, tastes like poo' stuff doesn't just win! This year the suggested bakes are chocolate cake, lemon meringue pie (technical bake!), Halloween theme savouries, mini cakes (a challenge to make 8 identical cakes), Swedish cookies (there's a list of several different types and each team gets given one at random), stollen and the final showstopper is a Christmas theme croquembouche! Going to be hard work, but hopefully fun!

    That sounds impressive and fun!

That sounds really yummy! If I could only eat one meal ever again, it would have to be Italian of some sort.
  • I'm horribly allergic to nuts :'( I miss them!

I tend to load my plate with meat and only have a few small spoonfuls of carbs :)

Someone remind me that a handful of doritos and some jelly babies are not a healthy nutritious lunch. Sorry Pyxis :(

Well, how's this for being the smug queen of smug land? :D

Just made a stirfry, my first meal of the day, made with:
Onion, squash, French beans, red pepper, carrots, mushrooms, rainbow chard, tomatoes, butter beans.

Onion fried in olive oil. Seasoned with black pepper, parsley, sage, basil, ginger and juniper berries. Half a jar of Sacla tomato and chilli pesto stirred in.

    Am eating it!

To follow, mixed soft fruit salad......blackberries, redcurrants, gooseberries, blueberries, physalis and strawberries. Admittedly, a slug of Crème de Cassis liqueur over the top.

However, I've still got the evening to get through! :( Plenty of temptation time left!

    Help!

The lads at my old work place used to talk openly about "Our lass has got the decorators in". :rotfl:

I should be doing :naughty: at you code, but mmm Jelly Babies! They do have natural colours and flavouring in them though, so that's erm....good....I think! :p

Anyhow, I've not been good either. Well, technically it's not really my fault. We got a new takeaway leaflet through. I should have threw it in the recycling straight away but I didn't and D got his hands on it and decided we should order from them. I've just ordered a veggie burger (which I actually have in the freezer anyhow, but no buns) because there was nothing else I fancied, but he's ordered Peri Peri chicken strips, chips AND onion rings despite me asking if he really needed both. Apparently he does, and I bet he leaves half of them.
