Thanks pyxis. They are so gorgeous. I was just thinking they'd make a great birthday present for someone close. DH is currently saying no.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I love irregular choice shoes!!
I'm having a bit of a clothing crisis. As you guys know, I've lost a bit of weight (2 stone so far and I'm down to a size 16). I still have a ways to go, but it's coming off slowly. I've spent the last year or so wearing jeans and t-shirt or dress over skinny jeans - basically anything that hides me. Last week, I was getting ready for bed and I'd taken my jeans off and was just wearing a skater dress and DH asked why I don't wear more dresses. I do actually have good legs - 34" inside leg, good shape and not too pale if I wear tights. I mumbled something about being too fat and he rubbished that. Anyway, I wore a shortish dress without the jeans when I went for my smear (yes, I went - note to others, don't laugh with a speculum in!!), and I felt really good and when DH got home he pounced on me. So I'm considering wearing more dresses without the jeans. But I'm hesitant too. Some of it is body image related - like people are going to think I'm too fat. Some of it is related to vulnerability - I was wearing a skirt when I got attacked and I've kind of avoided them since. I've also got used to being the tomboy in my jeans and converse and people are used to seeing that. And practicality - I have a 30 minute walk to work every day (hello chub rub!) and Scotland is cold!! Plus, I'd have to buy new clothes and I'm so tall that a lot of dresses are a bit short - I'm 35 so don't want to dress too young, or too old.
So my friends - here is the challenge. Find me dresses or skirts that will look good but not expensive (I plan to go down at least another dress size) and not make me feel to self-conscious.
ETA: I'm 1lb away from my next stone target and I intend to reward myself with this:
Wow, that was bigger than I expected. Here is the web link instead

Hi Codemonkey!
Although I have no advice in regards to what kind of skirts you should be looking at, I just wanted to say well done on your weight loss!

That's lovely, Code! :T
Thanks Pyxis. I think it's casual enough that I can wear it for everyday without looking like I'm going to a wedding or something.

Pyx - lol - should have known you were a biker!! ~squish~
Code - congrats on the great changes you have made - you give me hope! I have similar problem in that everyone is so used to me in jeans and cat boots that any attempt to look nice gets so many comments in makes me self conscious. When I did lose weight before and went through a ladylike phase - I bought elegant (just past the knee skirts) in thick materials - so I could walk the half hour to work in jeans and the skirt could be rolled up and popped in bag to change when I got to work. I wore slightly more stylish boots, longer leg sort of thing, that still went with the skirt. (or keep a pair of little flats at work to go with skirts) Just an idea?0 -
Katy - may I recommend some AC/DC for the escapee. grin0

Code - I am thinking of a pencil skirt that finishes just under knee cap in a thick material although I just had a quick look and found none in the type of heavy materials I used to wear - all summery. But try looking at Pencil skirts on Very. If it is not your thing to wear skirts, might be worth going into M&S and trying on plain black ones in different lengths and styles to establish which ones make the most of your fabulous legs - and for versatility - take a pair of heels and boots when trying on so you can make sure any purchase would look good with both.0
