Georgie, so glad it went well. It's good that you've got somewhere you can feel close to your Dad.
    First Class train, eh?
Several years ago, when I made a weekly train journey, there was sometimes the option to upgrade to First Class for just an extra £5, which I would take advantage of. There wasn't any included food and drink on that route, though!
I can remember when even in Second Class, waiters in white jackets would come round and take orders for tea or coffee, followed by another bearing 'silver' pots of tea or coffee and pouring it into china cups. Sigh.
That was only in the 1970s. How things have changed.

I always remember a few years back I had to catch the train to go and pick my car up from the garage. My Mam wasn't happy about me going on my own. I was like "I think I'm old enough!" :rotfl: Turns out that she thought they still had the cabins in trains and she was worried some unsavoury person would get in the same one! I personally can't ever remember trains having them, so I guess they haven't been in trains for quite a while now! Bless her! :p

You can get some really good deals on first class nowadays, for not much more than standard class. We always get it when we go to London. If you travel in the morning you get a breakfast, then something like a sandwich not long after, then a fruit or chicken salad later on plus the constant teas/coffees/soft drinks or alcohol.

The waiters in the white jackets sounds very civilised! I love travelling by train! :)

Hugs Melly x x I really hope you get something sorted soon. You've had such a hard time lately Hun. :(

Those corridor-less compartments were still on some trains in the 60s and 70s, 'cos I've been in them! I would get in a 'Ladies Only' one where possible, or choose one with several people in. They were on commuter lines, so you weren't in them for very long and the distance between stations was small.

    I loved trains too!
I used to go away for specific weekends with a society I belonged to, and would always go by train, all over the country, as I never needed a car once I was there, so the train really did take the strain. Booked in advance, the tickets were very good value!

((((Hugs)))) for anyone who needs them today, i know its not the easiest of days for a lot of people. I went for a meal with the family, was nice catching up, can't believe my brother has just turned 19! I feel so old! I still remember the day he was born :) Oh and my mum knows i have a tattoo now :rotfl: she was surprisingly cool about it :D she did say "You're 28 and a half, i'm not going to tell you what you can and can;t do" oh and pointed out when i see my Grandma next year for my cousins wedding to be prepared for the comments i will get. (I love my Grandma to bits, but she's very very blunt, so my mum always gets comments about her ai for example and seeing as ive put on about 5st since i last saw her i'm expecting comments!)

Came home at 2pm and had a nap...and i've only just woken up :o Think the food was too good! No going to finish watching OITNB and have a bath :)

I didn't start getting the train regular until the 90's, so didn't have a clue what she was talking about! I googled them and thought they looked cool actually! Good idea about the lady only ones. :)

The train holidays you used to go on sounded like fun!

    What to do today?
I am supposed to be resting, but that makes me think too much!
Was planning to take Little Sod for a potter around the park this afternoon with his friends, but that still leaves me most of the day to supposedly rest but actually feel useless!

Little Sod found some larpers in the woods once, not sure who was most terrified! He decided he wanted to join in, and took a fancy to a wooden sword someone had!
