Good morning thriftylass, good luck on your visit with the mortgage advisor. I hope all goes well. Wishing your OH a safe trip to the U.S. I have a newfound love for making weird and wonderful concoctions with what's left in the cupboard. Good luck on your OH-less adventures!

Yes, really looking fwd to what things I an finally use up that have been lurking in the cupboard for months (wine leaves, tin of German spam, plain oats, suet, garam flour, dry chickpeas etc. - obviously not all in the same dish :rotfl:)

EDIT: started making a list of possible dishes/foods that I can make without buying anything else in

wine leaves - stuff with rice and spices,
tin of German spam - use on sandwiches (maybe try the freeze them approach so my lunches are sorted for ages,
    plain oats - HM granola,
suet - ???? i guess pastry or sth, last time tried dumpling but more a winter food,
gram flour - flat breads to go with,
    dry chickpeas - curry

    Evening everyone :)

Is great to see you emptying your cupboards Thrifty... some interesting ideas there! I'm currently munching my way through some buckwheat rice cakes that had been lurking (reminiscent of cardboard!)... got a few soups to use, a tin of beans, a zillion tins of tuna/mackerel, some bags of rice, some nori (seaweed) - my random ingredient lol - and then a few bits in the freezer... It will be nice to just get down to shopping week by week... Need to get some good, healthy, staple recipes under my belt now.

Today = SFD number 15... pay day tomorrow for me :T

Will see if I can eek out my cupboard ingredients a few more days.

  • Hi all - sorry I've not been around, I'm a hiding turtle as I don't have as much money left at the end of the month as I wanted (mainly through having to buy prescription medication, grr). Not my fault though, I'm just rolling with it.
I did spend my £20 - well, most of it - on an IMAX cinema ticket at the weekend. They're a bit more expensive than normal tickets, but figured it was worth it to see 3D dinosaurs :D
Hope everyone's had a good Thursday - grateful for Friday tomorrow!

    Good evening.

Sorry, I am still around. I just couldn't work up the courage to come on here and admit that I have failed quite significantly.

My credit card is looking okay... now under £2000. However, due to the cost of Rome and Download (music festival), I now owe my OH about £1000.
In fairness though, about £800 of that is fuel as it costs a lot of money to travel from where we live to England then round about the countryside.
    :(

There is no justifying it and I feel awful which is why I have avoided coming on here.
Have decided to come clean... and will be honest when I get the exact figures.
It's just not looking good at all. Sorry.

I have had a good day but spent moderately. Walked to the infirmary (5 minutes off previous time but still twice as long as 30 years ago) for blood tests. The first arm stopped yielding blood so ended up with holes in both (bruises developing now) and the cotton wool and tape wouldn't stick as I had sun cream on.

Walked on to the other house and the long awaited cheque had arrived so hopped on the bus to go and bank it. Bought lunch snacks (had used the last of the sandwich fillings for breakfast) a can opener (DS2 has not returned mine) and located my favorite puzzle magazine and next month's copy of a popular one (did not buy stationery). Also resisted sale priced mountain walking sweatshirts and jackets in gorgeous colours (olive green, turquoise, peacock blue).

Travelled back bus station to bus station and then caught the bus to visit mum - increased dosage of pills is helping but up from 2 to 9 but not as good as she was after hospitalisation last year. She will be seeing the specialist the week after next and if it's not properly under control by then she will be re-admitted. Her partner is getting worse, has largely reverted to being a little boy but still reads the same bit from the paper over and over, increasing in volume if anyone else is speaking. Mum has now decided they need a bungalow but we have no idea if he will move.

Was hoping to go out again to buy more bedding plants (garden centre is on a different bus route) but feet are swollen. DS3 has transferred some money to me so have made several cc payments.

Today I am grateful for being single, that obtaining the samples is behind me and for reliable buses (and having a seat on each trip).

Stewby - sorry to hear you've had a set back. You can pay it down again though. Try not to beat yourself up.

Mothernerd - it sounds like you had a decent day but sorry about your mum and partner. Sounds like a lot on your and their plates with some big decisions to come.

    Hi Stewby

It always feels good to come clean and be honest... I think we have all slipped at one time or another... Adjust your signatures, and put it in its place... It might put your DFD back slightly but you can work to save extra pennies here and there to cut it back... You'll no doubt have some amazing memories of your travels - so keep hold of those instead of the guilt. We all need a break sometime.

    Hugs x

    Wise words Abundant indeed.

Well yesterday i went to collect the dress ordered online, didn't like it on so got 14 pounds refunded. Popped into Sainsbury' s local for odd food items which came to exactly 14 pounds!!!!! so its a SFD 15/20.

Apologies for posting yesterday, my eyes were red raw - hay fever hell. Todays not much better.

Stewby don't be too hard on yourself, I still playing catch up with combination of Fleetwood Mac London trip and buying some gig tickets for Oct/November. I am so glad I went unforgettable experience.

    Mothernerd

Stewby I agree with the previous posters. Chin up, if you fall of the horse you get straight back on.

mothernerd sorry to hear about the situation with your mum and her partner.

Yesterday wasn't a SFD in the end but I only bought bread, ham, grapes and milk. Today I'll got to the hairdressers (my treat this month).

Saw the mortgage guy yesterday. Initially computer said NO when we did the online thing, but I think they wanted to have a chat about things like childcare costs and future salary predictions (plus OHs salary was higher than he thought as he gave the post tax value - doh) and the man was happy. The computer also did an automated evaluation of our property which came to 172k (needs to be confirmed by person), higher then we thought so definitely LTV below 70% and even after the additional borrowing we still got more than 50k equity that should keep us save if we need it or if the market drops. We think we'll get the deal we want but it took ages as he questioned everything, it really took 3 hrs!!! But luckily he wasn't too pushy in trying to sell us stuff but made us aware of a few what ifs, like critical illness. We got arrangement for death and unemployment etc but not that. Anyway, looking good.

Will also get a second opinion on our dying car just in case or even just to increase it's trade in value.

    That's me for now
