NST June – Just Keep Jousting!

  • Hello all! Good evening. Is it really cold or are we just wimps? Our feet, hands and ears are all cold but we are resisting every urge to turn the central heating on. It's the end of June for goodness sakes. We have been blessed the previous 2 summers with lots and lots of glorious sunshine, I think we may have forgotten what the typical English summer feels.

I am happy to say we managed to keep the purse shut and made it up to NSD no. 17. We dodged the spends twice today. It was a bit sunny this morning and hubby thought it would be a good time to have both cars car washed and valeted coz both cars are filthy and it's been so long since they've had a car wash. Just as he was leaving, Mr. Sun had a change of mind and swapped with rain instead. So all the gardening plans went out of the window as well as the car wash and valetting. But to my amazement, hubby decided to do the car wash himself instead despite the rain. When I asked why he's washing the car in the rain, he said It's the perfect opportunity to wash the car. The rain will do all the rinsing and it's free and we're keeping the NSD. Bless him. The rain did the job too!

While hubby was washing the car I noticed 3 miserable overripe bananas which I decided could be just what we need to make peanut butter and banana cupcakes! DS2 offered to mash the bananas and help me bake but unfortunately I discovered DS1 has used all the eggs for omelet this morning! So I sent DS1 to my sister in law's house to ask for a couple of eggs. Sadly they've also ran out of eggs and they're keeping their NSD too. The dilemma was - a) to buy eggs to save the bananas from being thrown out? Or b) bin the bananas and keep the NSD. Votes were taken and the unanimous decision was to keep the NSD! What have we been turning into? Have we become sad, miserable people, taking these NSD a bit too far (some of our friends think so, but we don't care. They are not responsible for our bank accounts, are they?)

The Only Girl - Well done on saving the SFD.

I think, if I remember what a friend told me once, that you could have frozen the mushed bananas, for future reference, Sure somebody more knowledgeable will let us know.

The dilemma was - a) to buy eggs to save the bananas from being thrown out? Or b) bin the bananas and keep the NSD.

    c) make vegan banana buns with no eggs!! :rotfl:(I make these to cater for the vegans at the Buddhist centre when I bake for them)

or... d) peel the bananas and freeze them for when you have eggs again - apparently they are also good as a banana ice pop!

Hope you haven't binned them yet! :D

Showered, hair dyed, new PJs, tea eaten, clean sheets on the bed straight off the line and made (non-vegan) banana buns as I've eaten all the chocolate - now to watch Hannibal and meditate before bed - I'm feeling better today and hopefully will continue on the up :)

Night night and hugs to all x

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
The Only Girl - next time you are spending get some golden linseed and grind it up. You can make hundreds of banana based cakes with 1 packet and no need for eggs at all. I use it to make the vegan banana bread we sell. Also, you could just freeze the old bananas they are even better for banana cakes after they are frozen. No need to mash them.

I have washed clothes, bedding and towels but had another two hour sleep (only just cooking tea as don't want to eat at midnight or wake starving in the middle of the night. Loads of rubbish (all categories) gone out and doing well on the stair climbing (down as well).

Have so far not spent money today (nearest shop closes at 10pm) so quietly pleased (as usual there are so many more things that could have been done if only.....).

Today I am grateful for clean linen sheets (+ clean linen skirt), easy food from the freezer and using up small amounts of embroidery threads (gradually, over months, but finally starting to show in the tidiness of the workbox).

    Quick check in before bed...

Was worrying about meeting a friend today and breaking a SFD - didn't see how I could avoid it short of saying NO and sitting in a cafe and not buying... As it was she cancelled, and so I stayed home, did chores... and claimed SFD number 14 - Hoorah!!!

Today I'm grateful for the beautiful home i am now living in, for true friendship and the cat I have inherited!

    Good morning,

loving the quote applemuncher. Definitely need to to take it on board but cautiously as not to make it an excuse.

Today won't be a SFD as I need a loaf, some ham and milk. Won't do a proper shop till OH is gone to the States on Sun and then keep it minimal, making weird and wonderful stuff with what I got as I don't need to cook proper meals for a week. Actually quite looking fwd to being OH-less for a week as I seem to get so much more done when he's not around :p. Why's that?
Made the kids some soup yesterday with remnants of lentils, bacon, harricot beans and a can of tomatoes, thyme and garlic - blitzed. DD will eat anything, lol, will see if DS likes it too.

Will see the mortgage adviser today so will how that goes.

    Till later

  • Good morning thriftylass, good luck on your visit with the mortgage advisor. I hope all goes well. Wishing your OH a safe trip to the U.S. I have a newfound love for making weird and wonderful concoctions with what's left in the cupboard. Good luck on your OH-less adventures!
