    Debt-free and Proud!
I've just had my implant out and was told you can get pregnant imeadiately.

And since sperm can survive for upto a week if you have had unprotected sex within the week leading up to having it out you could become pregnant.

My nurse was very clear about it as she knew I didn't want to fall pregnant.

    Congratulations op.

Why not try a IUD coil - no hormones. Can stay in up to 10 years. Fertility returns to normal as soon as its removed.

However, my niece wouldn't have decided to have the implant after just one birth control pill not suiting her. She has already tried some 5 or 6 different pills over the past 8-9 years, and each one has come with issues and problems...

So the doctors have now come to the conclusion that the pill is not for her and it was actually the doctor who advised her to have the injection or inplant - and she is having the implant.

I was just interested to know how long it would be after the implant was removed, before you would fall pregnant. As the OP got caught quickly; it looks like it's no worse than when you come off the pill.

Sorry about your miscarrying and I am glad you finally have a daughter. :)

Your hormones are thought to return to normal relatively quickly following the removal of an implant. This can be within 2 weeks of it being taken out.

This is NOT the case with the injection (Depo-Provera) which can take many months if not more for your cycles to return to normal.

Your niece needs to go to a family planning clinic or her GP for a thorough discussion of different contraception methods to see what is right for her.

But my niece has already done all of this. As I said in my previous posts on here, she has been through many pills and has now come to the decision (with the help of the doctors and nurse,) that she will have the implant. They went through all the options, and the decision has been made; she is having the implant.

I wasn't debating the whys and wherefores of her having the implant, as it's already been decided she is having it; I was just personally curious as to how long it takes to get pregnant after it's removed.

    Thanks all.

I am happy, I am just in disbelief at the moment!

I don't necessarily 'feel' any different, which is making me feel anxious 24/7! I've done about 10 tests so far - just to make sure I'm 'still' pregnant :rotfl:

Trying to decide whether to go for a private early scan or not - has anyone gone down this route and can advise?

I had an early scan done but usually it's to see if the pregnancy is in the right place if you're at risk of ectopic. I had it at 6 weeks at a private clinic as the NHS are a bit rubbish in offering them even if you are high risk. Congratulations

    Congratulations!! Definitely a BFP then!!

Just to add, it is indeed possible to get a false positive. I got one on a trip to A&E with horrendous stomach pains, where they automatically do a pregnancy test. the nurse came and told me I was pregnant. I was terrified, and them horrified when my then BF said it couldn't possible be his!! I insisted on another test, then a big emergency then came in. It was the longest 45 minute wait of my life, but thankfully second test was negative.

She almost certainly read it wrong. You don't get false positives, or only very VERY rarely. If it was a nurse in A&E she could even have picked up someone else's test stick in a hurry, it does happen.

I had my private scan on Saturday. I thought I was 7 weeks 2 days but turns out I was 5 weeks 5 days! It was well worth the £60 for that peace of mind and to see the heartbeat! :happyhear
