Can you get a false-positive reading on a pregnancy test?

Thanks all.
I am happy, I am just in disbelief at the moment!
I don't necessarily 'feel' any different, which is making me feel anxious 24/7! I've done about 10 tests so far - just to make sure I'm 'still' pregnant :rotfl:
Trying to decide whether to go for a private early scan or not - has anyone gone down this route and can advise?
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0 -
All my pregnancies were a decade plus ago, but there's still not going to be much to see for several more weeks. Cells are multiplying amazingly, but with little to show for it yet.
Have a good read through the early weeks thread on this site, rest up, eat healthy and grin - all going well, you're going to be a Mum!
Congratulations and good luck!0 -
I had an early private scan. I waited until 9 weeks as things have a good chance from then. It's very hard to see anything much earlier than that so I'm not sure you'd get a scan before 6 or 7 weeks and then it would be an internal scan. Look up a few companies and see what they say.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

As you aren't sure of your dates, you are likely to be offered a dating scan shortly anyway, so may be no need to pay for a private scan. 3+ is the maximum you can get on a digi pregnancy test and doesn't mean you are 5 weeks pregnant, it means you are likely to be at least 5 weeks pregnant - in other words if you were 40 weeks and just about to deliver your test would still say 3+

I've had early scans with all of mine by the way, earliest one being 16 years ago at 6 weeks gestation and none of them were internal. If you are normal weight, they can often see using a normal belly ultrasound and you will see a heartbeat from between 6 and 7 weeks pregnant and it will look very like a baby from about 8 or 9 weeks.0 -
My DD is 12 now - time flies, apart from being sick as a dog and avoiding anything mint related (not gd as mot toothpaste was mint based), I didnt feel any different, as for an early scan, I was given one as I had miscarried before and had presented with stomach cramps, - they did the scan which was an internal one - first they couldn't find anything - then moved the probe around and found the baby - thou to be honest it was about a brazil nut size - I was 5 weeks then, my 12 week scan was brought forward by 2 weeks as I was going on hol but at 10 weeks you can see a bit more structure.
As for pregnancy tests - my 1st was a half blue line - remember ringing the helpline as I thought i had a faulty one - they told me it was an early result, but to try another one next day - if neg they were going to refund me - the next morning was positive - so was the one I took later that day - just to be sure...

No reason why you necessarily would, if it's early days. Some women are symptomatic from very early in the day, some aren't, and if it's your first you may be exhibiting signs but not picking up on it. Best thing, I think, is to get on folic acid and vitamin D if you're not already, and try to eat as healthily as you can before the nausea kicks in. Which it most probably will, at least for a little while.0 -
Definitely positive then!
